reservoir water and river water—thus it is remembered as eightfold.

Well water is alkaline, aggravates pitta, stimulates digestion, and does not greatly provoke vāta.

There, the first ten are as before.

Two carry food, based on its proper quantity.

Two carry water.

Two carry urine.

Two carry semen and two release it;

these same two \[carry\] menstrual fluid in women.

Two, attached to the large intestine, expel the feces;

thus there are twelve.

And the remaining eight transverse arteries gratify sweat.

Those who are unctuous, endowed with strength and youth, habituated to daily liquor, descended from such families,

possessing an excess of fat and kapha, mild vāta and pitta, and robust digestive fire.

One should inhale the smoke of that \[preparation\] smeared with ghee, or barley mixed with ghee.

and one should administer an enema to him with urine and the ten roots.

Especially in Skanda-possession, for three nights, night after night, one should perform the bathing of the wet-nurse and infant at a crossroads with water consecrated by the Gāyatrī.
