> All bodily doṣas arise from rustic diet in those who consume sour, salty, pungent, alkaline, dried vegetables, meat, sesamum, sesamum paste, and flour dishes; who consume sprouted grains, new awned grains, legumes, mutually contradictory, unwholesome, dry, alkaline, and channel-clogging foods; who consume sodden, heavy, putrid, and stale food; who mostly eat irregular meals or overeat; who indulge constantly in day-sleep, women, and alcohol; whose bodies are agitated by irregular and excessive exercise; and who abound in fear, anger, grief, greed, delusion, and weariness. For due to this cause, the flesh becomes loose, the joints are loosened, the blood burns, fat exudes in no small measure, marrow does not unite in the bones, semen does not flow forth, and ojas undergoes depletion. Such a one wastes away, sinks, becomes overcome with sleep, drowsiness, and indolence, sighs without enthusiasm, becomes incapable of bodily and mental actions, loses memory, intellect, and luster, becomes a vessel of diseases, and does not reach the full span of life.
