7.6.1

Now, therefore, we shall explain the chapter on the formulation of kṛtavedhana.

7.6.2

Thus spoke the venerable Ātreya:

7.6.3

Learn the names and formulation of kṛtavedhana: / kṣveḍa, kośātakī, and mṛdaṅgaphala are its names.

7.6.4

It is exceedingly pungent, sharp, and hot, and desired in deep-seated diseases: / in dermatosis, anemia, splenomegaly, edema, abdominal swelling, artificial poison, and the like.

7.6.5

The milk and the like of the flowers and others, and liquor, are used among these as before. / But of the thoroughly dried and mature [fruits], one or two according to strength,

7.6.6

one should drink with the nine decoctions of madhuka and the rest, like madana fruit. / Having boiled its fruit and strained it, one should prepare an electuary:

7.6.7

one part of paste of kṛtavedhana, combined with half a part of the fruit and others, / infused separately with thirteen [decoctions] of āragvadha and the rest,

7.6.8

and likewise with ten mucilaginous extracts of powders of śālmalī roots; / six suppository preparations like madana fruit, likewise the clarified butter of the fruit and others.

7.6.9

One should cook fifty kośātakas in the juice of kovidāra; / that decoction one should cook again into an electuary with pastes of the fruit and others.

7.6.10

There should be one part of kṣveḍa, but the rest half-parts; / one should prepare that separately in this way with decoctions of kovidāra and the rest.

7.6.11

In decoctions of the fruit and others, having cooked marshy meat separately / with an equal amount of kośātakī, one should drink the salted broth.

7.6.12

Equal to the fruit-seeds and the others, one should likewise drink the juice of kṣveḍa. / One suffering from cough should drink cooked kṣveḍa mixed with sugarcane juice.

7.6.13

Here are two verses:

7.6.13_1

Two in milk, two [in each], and one in liquor, likewise twenty-two decoctions, / ten mucilages, and one clarified butter, and six auspicious suppository preparations;

7.6.14

eight in electuary, and seven in meat, and another formulation in sugarcane juice; / in this chapter on the formulation of kṛtavedhana, sixty formulations are proclaimed.

7.6.14_1

Thus, in the treatise composed by Agniveśa, redacted by Caraka, and, being incomplete, completed by Dṛḍhabala, in the Section on Formulation, the sixth chapter, titled "The Formulation of Kṛtavedhana." //6
