Agni said:
I shall speak of the day votive observances; first I state the cow observance.
He who gives a cow facing both ways adorned with abundant gold,

and observes the milk observance for a day, attains supreme prosperity.
Having observed the milk observance for three days and given a golden wish-fulfilling tree,

he attains the state of Brahmā; it is known as bestowing the wish-fulfilling tree.
He should give an earth made of gold weighing more than twenty palas,

197.4

and observe the milk observance for a day; the day-observer goes to Rudra.
He who spends three nights in each fortnight eating only a single meal

attains abundant wealth; the one performing the three-night observance for a day,
eating for three nights month after month, eating a single meal, attains the status of Gaṇeśa.

197.6

He who performs the three-night votive observance dedicated to Janārdana,
taking along a hundred families, goes to the abode of Hari.
