10.74.1
/0 śrī-śuka uvāca
evaṃ yudhiṣṭhiro rājā jarāsandha-vadhaṃ vibhoḥ /
kṛṣṇasya cānubhāvaṃ taṃ śrutvā prītas tam abravīt //
Śuka said: / In this way King Yudhiṣṭhira, having heard of the slaying of Jarāsandha / and that majesty of the all-pervading Lord Kṛṣṇa, joyfully addressed him:
1. Sri Suka said:— (Highly) delighted to hear of Jarasandha's fall in the aforesaid manner and of Lord Krishna's supreme and glorious power king Yudhishtira said to Him.
10.74.2
/0 śrī-yudhiṣṭhira uvāca
ye syus trai-lokya-guravaḥ sarve lokā maheśvarāḥ /
vahanti durlabhaṃ labdvā śirasaivānuśāsanam //
Yudhiṣṭhira said: / Those who are the teachers of the three worlds and the great lords of all the worlds / carry your command upon their heads after obtaining it with difficulty.
2. Yudhishtira said:— All the worshipful preceptors and elders (like Sanaka and others) and the Rulers of the world (like Indra) bear Thy command on their head when it is their fortune to receive that grace, which every body cannot hope for.
10.74.3
sa bhavān aravindākṣo dīnānām īśa-māninām /
dhatte 'nuśāsanaṃ bhūmaṃs tad atyanta-viḍambanam //
That you, O lotus-eyed Lord, O infinite one, carry out the command / of wretched mortals who pride themselves on being rulers, is the utmost mimicry.
3. That Thou, O Pundarikaksha, of supreme glory, bearest the command of our poor selves conceited as rulers, is, O Perfect One, a supreme act of imitation of the world.
10.74.4
na hy ekasyādvitīyasya brahmaṇaḥ paramātmanaḥ /
karmabhir vardhate tejo hrasate ca yathā raveḥ //
For of the one without a second, Brahman, the Supreme Self, / the splendor neither increases nor decreases through actions, just like the sun.
4. Indeed the glory of Paramatman, the perfect one without a second, is not like that of the sun enhanced or diminished by His several acts.
10.74.5
na vai te 'jita bhaktānāṃ mamāham iti mādhava /
tvaṃ taveti ca nānā-dhīḥ paśūnām iva vaikṛtī //
Truly, O unconquered one, O Mādhava, among your devotees there is no differentiated thought / of ‘I’ and ‘mine,’ or ‘you’ and ‘yours,’ which is a distortion typical of animals.”
5. Indeed, O Madhava, the thought of difference as, "I and mine", and "Thou and Thine", does not find place even in Thy devotees, O Unconquered Lord, just as that crooked notion of difference obtains among brutes (with regard to their body).
10.74.6
/0 śrī-śuka uvāca
ity uktvā yajñiye kāle vavre yuktān sa ṛtvijaḥ /
kṛṣṇānumoditaḥ pārtho brāhmaṇān brahma-vādinaḥ //
Śuka said: / Having spoken thus, at the proper time for sacrifice the son of Pṛthā, approved by Kṛṣṇa, / chose the qualified priests, Brahmins who expound the Veda:
6. Sri Suka said:— Having thus expressed himself and with the consent of Krishna, Kunti's son invited brahmins versed in the Vedas as priests well-fitted for the purpose.
10.74.7
dvaipāyano bharadvājaḥ sumantur gotamo 'sitaḥ /
vasiṣṭhaś cyavanaḥ kaṇvo maitreyaḥ kavaṣas tritaḥ //

10.74.8
viśvāmitro vāmadevaḥ sumatir jaiminiḥ kratuḥ /
pailaḥ parāśaro gargo vaiśampāyana eva ca //
Viśvāmitra, Vāmadeva, Sumati, Jaimini, Kratu, / Paila, Parāśara, Garga, and Vaiśampāyana,
10.74.9
atharvā kaśyapo dhaumyo rāmo bhārgava āsuriḥ /
vītihotro madhucchandā vīraseno 'kṛtavraṇaḥ //
Atharvā, Kaśyapa, Dhaumya, Rāma Bhārgava, Āsuri, / Vītihotra, Madhucchandas, Vīrasena, and Akṛtavraṇa.
10.74.10
upahūtās tathā cānye droṇa-bhīṣma-kṛpādayaḥ /
dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ saha-suto viduraś ca mahā-matiḥ //
Likewise, others were invited: Droṇa, Bhīṣma, Kṛpa, and the rest; / Dhṛtarāṣṭra along with his sons; and the wise Vidura.
10.74.11
brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyāḥ śūdrā yajña-didṛkṣavaḥ /
tatreyuḥ sarva-rājāno rājñāṃ prakṛtayo nṛpa //
Brahmins, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras desiring to witness the sacrifice, / all the kings, and the subjects of those kings went there, O king.
11. Brahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, Sudras, desirous of seeing the sacrifice as well as all the princes and their chief officers went thither, O king.
10.74.12
tatas te deva-yajanaṃ brāhmaṇāḥ svarṇa-lāṅgalaiḥ /
kṛṣṭvā tatra yathāmnāyaṃ dīkṣayāṃ cakrire nṛpam //
Then those Brahmins plowed the place of sacrifice for the gods with golden plows / and initiated the king there according to the Vedic tradition.
12. Then those brahmins ploughed the sacrificial ground with golden ploughs and there, according to the Vedas, they consecrated the king as the sacrificer.
10.74.13
haimāḥ kilopakaraṇā varuṇasya yathā purā /
indrādayo loka-pālā viriñci-bhava-saṃyutāḥ //
The sacrificial vessels, as once for Varuṇa, were made of gold; / and the guardians of the world, headed by Indra, along with Brahmā and Śiva,
13. to 15. Indeed all the utensils were of gold as they were in Varuna's sacrifice in ancient times, Indra and other protectors of the cardinal points along with Brahma and Rudra and with their retinue, Siddhas, Gandharvas, Vidyadharas, the great sages, Yakshas, Rakshasas, birds, Kinnaras, Charanas, princes and their consorts, all being invited, went to the Rajasuya of king Yudhistira, son of Pandu.
10.74.14
sa-gaṇāḥ siddha-gandharvā vidyādhara-mahoragāḥ /
munayo yakṣa-rakṣāṃsi khaga-kinnara-cāraṇāḥ //
together with their retinues, the Siddhas, Gandharvas, Vidyādharas, and great serpents, / the sages, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, birds, Kinnaras, and Cāraṇas,
10.74.15
rājānaś ca samāhūtā rāja-patnyaś ca sarvaśaḥ /
rājasūyaṃ samīyuḥ sma rājñaḥ pāṇḍu-sutasya vai /
menire kṛṣṇa-bhaktasya sūpapannam avismitāḥ //
as well as the kings and their queens, summoned from all directions, / came to the Rājasūya sacrifice of the king, the son of Pāṇḍu; / knowing him to be a devotee of Kṛṣṇa, they did not wonder at it, seeing it as well-deserved.
16. Without any feeling of surprise, they all considered this quite natural and appropriate to the devotee of Krishna. The priests brilliant like the gods, conducted for the king the sacrifice of Rajasuya according to Sastra as the gods did for Varuna.
10.74.16
ayājayan mahā-rājaṃ yājakā deva-varcasaḥ /
rājasūyena vidhi-vat pracetasam ivāmarāḥ //
The priests, possessing the splendor of gods, performed the Rājasūya for the great king / according to the rules, just as the immortals once did for Varuṇa.
10.74.17
sūtye 'hany avanī-pālo yājakān sadasas-patīn /
apūjayan mahā-bhāgān yathā-vat su-samāhitaḥ //
On the day of the pressing of soma, the ruler of the earth, carefully collected, / worshipped the priests and the leaders of the assembly, those very fortunate souls, according to custom.
17. On the day for extracting the Soma juice, the serene-minded king duly honoured the highly virtuous priests and the judges of the performance.
10.74.18
sadasyāgryārhaṇārhaṃ vai vimṛśantaḥ sabhā-sadaḥ /
nādhyagacchann anaikāntyāt sahadevas tadābravīt //
Deliberating over who was worthy of the foremost honor among the members of the assembly, / the attendees could not reach a decision because of disagreement; then Sahadeva spoke:
18. The judges proceeded to consider who was worthy of being first honoured in the Assembly, but could not come to a decision, since every one they thought of proved defective; thereupon Sahadeva spoke.
10.74.19
arhati hy acyutaḥ śraiṣṭhyaṃ bhagavān sātvatāṃ patiḥ /
eṣa vai devatāḥ sarvā deśa-kāla-dhanādayaḥ //
“Acyuta, the Lord, the master of the Sātvatas, is indeed worthy of supremacy; / for he is all the deities, space, time, wealth, and the rest.
19. Indeed it is Achyuta, the glorious Lord of Satvatas, who deserves the eminent place, He is indeed all the gods, Time, Space, wealth and other things.
10.74.20
yad-ātmakam idaṃ viśvaṃ kratavaś ca yad-ātmakāḥ /
agnir āhutayo mantrā sāṅkhyaṃ yogaś ca yat-paraḥ //
This universe is made of him, and the sacrifices are made of him; / he is fire, the oblations, the mantras, and the goal of Sāṅkhya and Yoga.
20. It is He who is this Universe; it is He who is the Lord of sacrifices, Agni, oblations, mantras, the object of contemplation and of all yoga practices.
10.74.21
eka evādvitīyo 'sāv aitad-ātmyam idaṃ jagat /
ātmanātmāśrayaḥ sabhyāḥ sṛjaty avati hanty ajaḥ //
He is one without a second; this whole universe has him as its self; / by himself, resting on himself, the unborn Lord creates, maintains, and destroys, O members of the assembly.
21. He is but One without a second, the whole Universe is one with Him, He is the support of Atman by Himself, O judges, being Unborn He creates, protects, and destroys this.
10.74.22
vividhānīha karmāṇi janayan yad-avekṣayā /
īhate yad ayaṃ sarvaḥ śreyo dharmādi-lakṣaṇam //
Generating various works in this world through the gaze of his eye, / each person seeks whatever welfare is marked by dharma and the rest.
22. Through His grace a person attempts .various kinds of acts in the world and every body tries for Dharma and other high purposes to be reached.
10.74.23
tasmāt kṛṣṇāya mahate dīyatāṃ paramārhaṇam /
evaṃ cet sarva-bhūtānām ātmanaś cārhaṇaṃ bhavet //
Therefore, let the supreme honor be given to the great Kṛṣṇa; / if it is done this way, it will be the honoring of all beings and of oneself.
23. Therefore to the great Krishna the Supreme, first honour ought to be done and that would be honouring all beings and one's own self (ourselves).
10.74.24
sarva-bhūtātma-bhūtāya kṛṣṇāyānanya-darśine /
deyaṃ śāntāya pūrṇāya dattasyānantyam icchatā //
To Kṛṣṇa, who has become the self of all beings, who sees no other, / peaceful and complete, a gift should be given by one who desires infinity for his offering.”
24. By one who seeks after infinite benefit of the gift it should be offered to Krishna who is the Atman of all beings, who does not look to another for help, who is absolutely perfect and wants nothing.
10.74.25
ity uktvā sahadevo 'bhūt tūṣṇīṃ kṛṣṇānubhāva-vit /
tac chrutvā tuṣṭuvuḥ sarve sādhu sādhv iti sattamāḥ //
Having spoken thus, Sahadeva, who knew the majesty of Kṛṣṇa, fell silent; / hearing that, all the best of the virtuous praised him, saying, ‘Excellent! Excellent!’
25. Thus spoke Sahadeva who knew Krishna's glorious power and observed silence; and all the good people were pleased to hear it and applauded, "well said, well said".
10.74.26
śrutvā dvijeritaṃ rājā jñātvā hārdaṃ sabhā-sadām /
samarhayad dhṛṣīkeśaṃ prītaḥ praṇaya-vihvalaḥ //
Hearing the words of the twice-born and knowing the inner feeling of the members of the assembly, / the king, delighted and overcome with love, worshiped Hṛṣīkeśa.
26. When the king listened to what the brahmins expressed and also perceived the heart of the members of the sacrificial assembly—he was very much pleased and possessed with feelings of love to Krishna did Him the first honour.
10.74.27
tat-pādāv avanijyāpaḥ śirasā loka-pāvanīḥ /
sa-bhāryaḥ sānujāmātyaḥ sa-kuṭumbo vahan mudā //

27. In great joy he washed His feet with water and bore on his head a few drops which purify the world; so also did His wives, brothers, ministers and the family.
10.74.28
vāsobhiḥ pīta-kauṣeyair bhūṣaṇaiś ca mahā-dhanaiḥ /
arhayitvāśru-pūrṇākṣo nāśakat samavekṣitum //

28. Offering presents of cloths of yellow silk and ornaments of great value, he worshipped Him and for the tears in his eyes, he could not see distinctly.
10.74.29
itthaṃ sabhājitaṃ vīkṣya sarve prāñjalayo janāḥ /
namo jayeti nemus taṃ nipetuḥ puṣpa-vṛṣṭayaḥ //
Seeing him thus honored, all the people, with hands joined in reverence, / bowed to him, crying, "Obeisances! Victory!", and showers of flowers fell [upon him].
29. Seeing Him thus honoured, all the people folded their hands in reverence, uttered "Namah and Jaya" and bowed to Him, and showers of flowers fell.
10.74.29.p1
itthaṃ niśamya damaghoṣa-sutaḥ sva-pīṭhād $ utthāya kṛṣṇa-guṇa-varṇana-jāta-manyuḥ &
Hearing this, the son of Damaghoṣa rose from his seat, his wrath aroused by the description of Kṛṣṇa's virtues;
30. On hearing this, Sisupala intolerant and enraged at the glorification of Krishna's qualities, rose from his seat, held up his arm and fearlessly spoke thus in the assembly, uttering harsh words to be heard by Krishna.
10.74.30
utkṣipya bāhum idam āha sadasy amarṣī % saṃśrāvayan bhagavate paruṣāṇy abhītaḥ //
raising his arm, intolerant and fearless, he spoke these harsh words in the assembly, making them heard by the Lord:
10.74.31
īśo duratyayaḥ kāla iti satyavatī srutiḥ /
vṛddhānām api yad buddhir bāla-vākyair vibhidyate //
"True is the Vedic declaration: 'Time, the Lord, is insurmountable,' / since even the intellect of the elders is led astray by the words of a boy.
31. The Vedic text speaks the truth that the Supreme Ruler or Time, is inviolable and inevitable; for even the reason of the elderly people gives way to the babblings of children.
10.74.32
yūyaṃ pātra-vidāṃ śreṣṭhā mā mandhvaṃ bāla-bhāṣītam /
sadasas-patayaḥ sarve kṛṣṇo yat sammato 'rhaṇe //
You, the foremost among those who know the worthy recipients, do not heed the talk of a boy, / all you leaders of the assembly, that Kṛṣṇa has been deemed worthy of worship!
32. Do you all, O leaders of the council, that can best judge of the proper recipient, give any heed to the child's prattling, that Krishna is unanimously thought fit for the honour.
10.74.33
tapo-vidyā-vrata-dharān jñāna-vidhvasta-kalmaṣān /
paramaṛṣīn brahma-niṣṭhāṃl loka-pālaiś ca pūjitān //
Passing over the supreme sages fixed on Brahman, observing austerities, learning, and vows, / whose sins have been destroyed by knowledge, and who are revered by the guardians of the world,
33. & 34. To the neglect of those who have tapas, learning, merit of penances, those that are rid of all sin through the force of wisdom, the great Rishis devoted to Brahman and worshipped even by Indra and other protectors of the world and these chief leaders of the assembly, a cowherd, the evil genius of the family—how does he deserve this honour or how does a crow deserve to receive Purodasa (an offering prepared for sacrifice)?
10.74.34
sadas-patīn atikramya gopālaḥ kula-pāṃsanaḥ /
yathā kākaḥ puroḍāśaṃ saparyāṃ katham arhati //
and the leaders of the assembly—how does a cowherd, the defiler of his family, / deserve worship, any more than a crow [deserves] the sacrificial cake?
10.74.35
varṇāśrama-kulāpetaḥ sarva-dharma-bahiṣ-kṛtaḥ /
svaira-vartī guṇair hīnaḥ saparyāṃ katham arhati //
Deprived of caste, stage of life, and family, excluded from all dharma, / acting willfully, devoid of virtues—how does he deserve worship?
35. He has no Varna, Asrama and Kula, nobility of birth; he is out of the pale of all Dharmas, and behaves as he likes, has no good qualities,—how does he deserve this worship?
10.74.36
yayātinaiṣāṃ hi kulaṃ śaptaṃ sadbhir bahiṣ-kṛtam /
vṛthā-pāna-rataṃ śaśvat saparyāṃ katham arhati //
For their family was cursed by Yayāti, cast out by the virtuous devotees, / and constantly addicted to vain drinking—how does he deserve worship?
36. This race has been cursed by Yayati and excommunicated by the righteous and is wantonly given always to drinking—how does he deserve the Puja?
10.74.37
brahmarṣi-sevitān deśān hitvaite 'brahma-varcasam /
samudraṃ durgam āśritya bādhante dasyavaḥ prajāḥ //
Abandoning regions inhabited by brahmin sages, having taken refuge in the inaccessible ocean / devoid of spiritual splendor, these bandits harass the subjects."
37. Having abandoned the countries frequented and occupied by brahmin sages, these like high-way men have resorted to the fortification of the sea, destitute of the glory of Brahmanas and are harassing all creatures.
10.74.38
evam-ādīny abhadrāṇi babhāṣe naṣṭa-maṅgalaḥ /
novāca kiñcid bhagavān yathā siṃhaḥ śivā-rutam //
These and other inauspicious words he spoke, his fortune lost; / the Lord said nothing at all, just like a lion [indifferent to] the howling of a jackal.
38. Sisupala whose merit was exhausted uttered these and similar harsh words, but the Almighty Lord did not say anything in reply, just as the lion does not reply the jackal's howling.
10.74.39
bhagavan-nindanaṃ śrutvā duḥsahaṃ tat sabhā-sadaḥ /
karṇau pidhāya nirjagmuḥ śapantaś cedi-paṃ ruṣā //
Hearing that unbearable slander of the Lord, the members of the assembly, / covering their ears, walked out, angrily cursing the ruler of Cedi.
39. When they heard this unbearable reproach of the Lord, the audience shut their ears and went out indignantly, censuring Sisupala.
10.74.40
nindāṃ bhagavataḥ śṛṇvaṃs tat-parasya janasya vā /
tato nāpaiti yaḥ so 'pi yāty adhaḥ sukṛtāc cyutaḥ //
Whoever hears the slander of the Lord or of a person devoted to Him / and does not depart from that place also falls into degradation, fallen from his merit.
40. Hearing the reproachful words cast upon the Lord or upon His devotee, he, who does not get away from the spot, is also one doomed to lose all his merit and to go to hell.
10.74.41
tataḥ pāṇḍu-sutāḥ kruddhā matsya-kaikaya-sṛñjayāḥ /
udāyudhāḥ samuttasthuḥ śiśupāla-jighāṃsavaḥ //
Then the enraged sons of Pāṇḍu, along with the Matsyas, Kaikayas, and Sṛñjayas, / stood up with raised weapons, eager to kill Śiśupāla.
41. Then the sons of Pandu, Matsyas, Kaikeyas and Srinjanyas rose up in rage with their weapons, impatient to do away with Sisupala.
10.74.42
tataś caidyas tv asambhrānto jagṛhe khaḍga-carmaṇī /
bhartsayan kṛṣṇa-pakṣīyān rājñaḥ sadasi bhārata //
Then the king of Cedi, undaunted, seized sword and shield, / threatening the kings aligned with Kṛṣṇa in the assembly, O descendant of Bharata.
42. Thereupon Chaidya undauntedly drew up his sword and shield, and threatened the princes on the side of Krishna in the assembly, O Bharata.
10.74.43
tāvad utthāya bhagavān svān nivārya svayaṃ ruṣā /
śiraḥ kṣurānta-cakreṇa jahāra patato ripoḥ //
Thereupon the Lord, standing up, restrained his own men, and himself in anger / severed the head of his rushing enemy with his razor-edged discus.
43. Just then the Almighty Lord Himself asked His people to stand apart, and angrily cut off with His sharp-edged Chakra the head of the enemy that rushed at Him.
10.74.44
śabdaḥ kolāhalo 'thāsīc chiśupāle hate mahān /
tasyānuyāyino bhūpā dudruvur jīvitaiṣiṇaḥ //
Then there was a great sound of tumult when Śiśupāla was slain; / the kings who followed him fled, wishing to save their lives.
44. Great was the uproar when Sisupala was struck down and the princes who were his followers took to flight to save their lives.
10.74.45
caidya-dehotthitaṃ jyotir vāsudevam upāviśat /
paśyatāṃ sarva-bhūtānām ulkeva bhuvi khāc cyutā //
A light rising from the body of the king of Cedi entered into Vāsudeva / before the eyes of all beings, like a meteor fallen from the sky to the earth.
45. A light emerged from Chaidya's body and entered into Vasudeva like a fire-brand dropping from the sky, and all the people witnessed it.
10.74.46
janma-trayānuguṇita- vaira-saṃrabdhayā dhiyā /
dhyāyaṃs tan-mayatāṃ yāto bhāvo hi bhava-kāraṇam //
Meditating with a mind inflamed by hostility multiplied over three births, / he attained oneness with Him; for the devotional emotion is indeed the cause of becoming.
46. Contemplating the Lord with thoughts saturated with the hatred that had multiplied itself in three lives, he became one with Him, for it is one's own thought that determines the next state of life.
10.74.47
ṛtvigbhyaḥ sa-sadasyebhyo dakṣināṃ vipulām adāt /
sarvān sampūjya vidhi-vac cakre 'vabhṛtham eka-rāṭ //
The sovereign king gave abundant sacrificial fees to the priests along with the members of the assembly, / and having honored all in accordance with the injunctions, he performed the final ablution.
47. The king gave liberal dakshinas to the priests and the members of the sacrificial assembly and having honoured all, the emperor performed Avabhrita (closing ablutions) according to Sastras.
10.74.48
sādhayitvā kratuḥ rājñaḥ kṛṣṇo yogeśvareśvaraḥ /
uvāsa katicin māsān suhṛdbhir abhiyācitaḥ //
Having accomplished the sacrifice of the king, Kṛṣṇa, the Lord of the lords of yoga, / dwelt [there] for a few months, entreatied by his friends.
48. After having successfully conducted the sacrifice of the king, Krishna, the supreme Master of great Yogins, spent some months there at the request of His friends. 49. Thereafter the son of Devaki, the Supreme Lord, took leave of the reluctant King and returned to His city with His queens and ministers.
10.74.49
tato 'nujñāpya rājānam anicchantam apīśvaraḥ /
yayau sa-bhāryaḥ sāmātyaḥ sva-puraṃ devakī-sutaḥ //
Then, taking leave of the king, who was reluctant [to let him go], the Lord, / the son of Devakī, departed for his own city along with his wives and ministers.
10.74.50
varṇitaṃ tad upākhyānaṃ mayā te bahu-vistaram /
vaikuṇṭha-vāsinor janma vipra-śāpāt punaḥ punaḥ //
That narrative has been described by me to you in great detail: / the birth of the two residents of Vaikuṇṭha again and again on account of a brahmin's curse.
50. I have thus described the long story of the two servants of Vaikuntha, how under the curse of the wise brahmins they had repeated births.
10.74.51
rājasūyāvabhṛthyena snāto rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ /
brahma-kṣatra-sabhā-madhye śuśubhe sura-rāḍ iva //
King Yudhiṣṭhira, bathed with the final ablution of the Rājasūya sacrifice, / shone in the midst of the assembly of brahmins and kṣatriyas like the king of the gods.
51. When at the close of Rajasuya he had his final ablutions king Yudhishtira shone like Indra, in the assembly of Brahmins and kshatriyas.
10.74.52
rājñā sabhājitāḥ sarve sura-mānava-khecarāḥ /
kṛṣṇaṃ kratuṃ ca śaṃsantaḥ sva-dhāmāni yayur mudā //
All the gods, men, and sky-dwellers, having been honored by the king, / returned to their own abodes with joy, praising Kṛṣṇa and the sacrifice—
52. & 53. Honoured by the king, all the gods, men and the residents of the air, gladly returned to their places, singing praises of Krishna and the sacrifice with the exception of Duryodhana, the sinful Kali — the disease of the Kuru race, who did not bear to see that vast wealth and splendour of Pandu's son.
10.74.53
duryodhanam ṛte pāpaṃ kaliṃ kuru-kulāmayam /
yo na sehe śrīyaṃ sphītāṃ dṛṣṭvā pāṇḍu-sutasya tām //
except for the wicked Duryodhana, the personification of Kali, the pestilence of the Kuru clan, / who could not endure seeing that abundant prosperity of the son of Pāṇḍu.
10.74.54
ya idaṃ kīrtayed viṣṇoḥ karma caidya-vadhādikam /
rāja-mokṣaṃ vitānaṃ ca sarva-pāpaiḥ pramucyate //
Whoever glorifies this deed of Viṣṇu, the slaying of the king of Cedi and the rest, / the release of the kings, and the sacrifice, is freed from all sins.
54. He who sings this deed of Vishnu relating to Chaidya's punishment and so on, as well as the release of the kings and the sacrifice, becomes absolved from all sin.
