10.28.1
Śrī Bādarāyaṇi said: / Having fasted on the eleventh day and worshipped Janārdana, / Nanda entered the water of the Kālindī on the twelfth day to bathe.
10.28.2
A servant of Varuṇa, an Asura, seized him and led him into [Varuṇa’s] presence, / [Nanda] having entered the water at night, disregarding the demonic hour.
10.28.3
Not seeing him, the cowherds cried out, ‘O Kṛṣṇa! O Rāma!’ / Hearing of that, and that his father had been taken by Varuṇa, / the Lord, the all-pervading protector of his own people, went into his presence, O King.
10.28.4
Seeing Hṛṣīkeśa arrived, the guardian of the world worshipped him with magnificent / hospitality and, delighted by the grand festival of his sight, spoke:
10.28.5
Śrī Varuṇa said: / Today my body is fulfilled; today indeed has my purpose been achieved, O Lord! / Those who take to your feet, O Lord, have reached the end of the journey.
10.28.6
Obeisance to you, the Lord, Brahman, the Supreme Self, / where the creative power that imagines the creation of worlds is not heard of!
10.28.7
By my ignorant servant, a fool who did not know right from wrong, / this father of yours was brought here; that you should forgive.
10.28.8
You ought to bestow your favor upon me also, Kṛṣṇa, O all-seeing one! / O Govinda, fond of your father, let this father of yours be taken.
10.28.9
Śrī Śuka said: / Being thus propitiated, Kṛṣṇa, the Lord, the ruler of rulers, / took his father and departed, bringing joy to his kinsmen.
10.28.10
Nanda, having witnessed the extraordinary, grand majesty of the world-guardian / and their bowing down to Kṛṣṇa, spoke to his kinsmen in astonishment.
10.28.11
Their minds filled with longing, O King, the cowherds thought of him as the Supreme Lord: / ‘Will the sovereign master also grant us his subtle abode?’
10.28.12
Understanding this of his own people, the all-seeing Lord himself, / out of compassion for the fulfillment of their resolve, reflected thus:
10.28.13
‘People in this world, wandering through high and low states of existence / driven by ignorance, desire, and action, do not know their own true destination.’
10.28.14
Having reflected thus, the supremely compassionate Lord Hari / showed to the cowherds his own realm, which is beyond darkness:
10.28.15
truth, knowledge, infinite—that eternal radiance of Brahman / which the sages, gathered in meditation, see when the material qualities have ceased.
10.28.16
Brought to the lake of Brahman, plunged in, and lifted out by Kṛṣṇa, / they saw the realm of Brahman, which Akrūra had once attained.
10.28.17
Nanda and the others, beholding it, were filled with supreme bliss, / and greatly astonished [to see] Kṛṣṇa being praised there by the Vedic meters.
