10.82.1
Śrī Śuka said:
Then once, while Rāma and Kṛṣṇa were dwelling in Dvāravatī, / there occurred a great solar eclipse, as if at the dissolution of an eon.
10.82.2
Learning of it beforehand, O king, people from all directions / went to the sacred field of Samanta-pañcaka, desiring to secure their welfare,
10.82.3
Where Rāma, the best of weapon-bearers, while ridding the earth of kṣatriyas, / formed great lakes with the torrents of the kings' blood.
10.82.4
And the Lord Rāma sacrificed there, though untouched by action,
the Lord guiding the world, as if another [man], for the removal of sin.
10.82.5
Upon that great pilgrimage the people of Bharata's realm went thither,
and the Vṛṣṇis as well, Akrūra, Vasudeva, Āhuka, and the rest.
10.82.6
They went to that holy field, O descendant of Bharata, wishing to burn away their sins:
Gada, Pradyumna, Sāmba, and the others, with Sucandra, Śuka, and Sāraṇa;
Aniruddha remained behind for protection, and Kṛtavarman the commander of the army.
10.82.7
They, with chariots resembling the mansions of the gods, and with horses of swift gait,
with trumpeting elephants like clouds, and with men of the splendor of Vidyādharas,
10.82.8
shone upon the road, possessed of great radiance, wearing golden garlands,
arrayed in celestial wreaths, garments, and armor, with their wives, like sky-farers.
10.82.9
Bathing there, those fortunate ones, having fasted with concentrated minds,
gave cows to the brāhmaṇas, garlanded with cloths, wreaths, and gold.
10.82.10
Having bathed according to rule again in the lakes of Rāma, the Vṛṣṇis
gave fine food to the foremost of the twice-born, saying: “May we have devotion unto Kṛṣṇa.”
10.82.11
And having eaten themselves with their permission, the Vṛṣṇis, whose divinity was Kṛṣṇa,
sat at ease beneath trees with pleasant shade.
10.82.12
There they beheld kings who had come, their friends and relatives:
the Matsyas, Uśīnaras, Kauśalyas, Vidarbhas, Kurus, and Sṛñjayas,
10.82.13
the Kāmbojas, Kaikayas, Madras, Kuntis, Ānartas, and Keralas,
and hundreds of others of their own party and of the other, O king,
and their friends the cowherds, Nanda and the others, and the cowherd women, long yearning [for them].
10.82.14
With the beauty of their lotus-like hearts and faces blossoming from the swift rush of joy at seeing one another,
embracing tightly, with tears flowing from their eyes, their hair standing on end, their voices choked, they attained joy.
10.82.14.p1
And the women, gazing upon one another with glances from the spotless corners of their eyes smiling with intense affection, embraced,
10.82.15
pressing bosom to bosom smeared with saffron paste
with their arms, their eyes filled with tears of affection.
10.82.15.p1

10.82.16
Then, having saluted the elders and having been saluted by the younger,
enquiring of each other's welcome and welfare, they spoke of Kṛṣṇa among themselves.
10.82.17
Pṛthā, seeing her brothers, sisters, their sons, her parents as well,
her brothers' wives, and Mukunda, abandoned her grief through conversation.
10.82.18
Kuntī said:
O noble brother, I consider myself one whose desires are unfulfilled,
since you, best of the virtuous, do not remember news of me in times of misfortune.
10.82.19
Friends, kin, sons, brothers, and even parents
do not remember their own kin when fate is unkind to them.
10.82.20
Śrī Vasudeva said:
O mother, do not hold malice against us, men who are playthings of fate;
for the world is in the power of the Lord; [man] acts or is made to act.
10.82.21
Tormented by Kaṃsa, all of us fled in every direction;
only now, O sister, have we been brought back to our place by destiny.
10.82.22
Śrī Śuka said:
Honored by Vasudeva, Ugrasena, and the other Yadus, those kings
were filled with the supreme bliss of beholding Acyuta.
10.82.23
Bhīṣma, Droṇa, the son of Ambikā, Gāndhārī along with her sons,
the Pāṇḍavas with their wives, Kuntī, Sañjaya, Vidura, Kṛpa,
10.82.24
Kuntībhoja, Virāṭa, Bhīṣmaka, the great Nagnajit,
Purujit, Drupada, Śalya, Dhṛṣṭaketu along with the king of Kāśi,
10.82.25
Damaghoṣa, Viśālākṣa, the king of Mithilā, the kings of Madra and Kekaya,
Yudhāmanyu, Suśarman, and Bāhlika and others with their sons,
10.82.26
and whatever kings, O best of kings, were devoted to Yudhiṣṭhira,
seeing the body of Śauri, the abode of fortune, accompanied by his wives, were filled with wonder.
10.82.27
Then they, properly received with honor by Rāma and Kṛṣṇa,
filled with joy, praised the Vṛṣṇis who had Kṛṣṇa as their possession:
10.82.28
“Ah, O Lord of the Bhojas, you are the ones among men here who have attained [the purpose of] birth,
since you see repeatedly Kṛṣṇa, who is difficult to be seen even by yogins.
10.82.28.p1
His renown, praised by the Vedas, this water that washes his feet, and his word, the scripture, thoroughly purify [the universe];
and the earth, though its fortune was scorched away by time, having power awakened by the touch of his lotus feet, showers upon us all desired objects.
10.82.29
Even the earth, whose fortune was scorched by time, with her power aroused by the touch of his lotus feet, showers upon us all desired objects.
10.82.29.p1

10.82.29.p2
By seeing him, touching him, walking behind him, conversing with him,
sharing his bed, seat, and meals, and bound to him by matrimonial alliance and blood relationship,
10.82.29.p3
bound by seeing him, touching him, following him, conversing with him, sharing his bed, seat, and food, and by marital and kinship ties—
10.82.30
for you, who abide in the home—the pathway to hell—
Viṣṇu himself has become the cessation of heaven and liberation!”
10.82.30.p1

10.82.31
Śrī Śuka said:
Nanda, knowing that the Yadus had arrived there, led by Kṛṣṇa,
came thither surrounded by the cowherds with their goods in wagons, wishing to see them.
10.82.32
Seeing him, the Vṛṣṇis, delighted, stood up like bodies regaining their life-breath,
and embraced him tightly, anxious after their long separation.
10.82.33
Vasudeva, embracing him, was overjoyed and overwhelmed with love,
remembering the hardships caused by Kaṃsa and the entrustment of his son in Gokula.
10.82.34
Kṛṣṇa and Rāma, embracing their parents and saluting them,
spoke nothing out of love, their throats choked with tears, O bull of the Kurus.
10.82.35
Setting the two of them on their own laps and embracing them with their arms,
[Nanda and] the fortunate Yaśodā cast aside their sorrows for their two sons.
10.82.36
Then Rohiṇī and Devakī, embracing the queen of Vraja,
remembering the friendship shown by her, their voices choked with tears, said:
10.82.37
“What woman could forget your unceasing friendship, O queen of Vraja,
for which there is no repayment here, even having obtained the sovereignty of Indra?
10.82.37.p1
These two, who had not seen their parents, received from you two parents
delight, upbringing, nourishment, and protection,
and lived like the eyelids to the eyes,
10.82.38
kept safe without fear from any quarter; for the virtuous, there is no ‘other’ or ‘one’s own’.”
10.82.38.p1
[…]
10.82.39
Śrī Śuka said:
And the cowherd women, having found after a long time Kṛṣṇa, their beloved—
at whose gazing they curse the creator of eyelids on their eyes—
brought him fully into their hearts with their eyes, embraced him,
and attained absorption into him, which is difficult to attain even for those ever united [in yoga].
10.82.40
The Lord, approaching them who were in that state in a secluded place,
embraced them, enquired of their health, and smilingly spoke as follows.
10.82.41
Do you remember us, O friends, who departed wishing to accomplish the purpose of our kin, / and stayed away for so long, our minds set on destroying the side of the enemy?
10.82.42
Do you perhaps harbor resentment against us, suspecting us of ingratitude? / Surely the Lord unites and separates beings.
10.82.43
Just as the wind brings together and scatters again a mass of clouds, grass, cotton, and dust, / so does the creator of beings [bring together and scatter] beings.
10.82.44
Devotion to me indeed leads beings to immortality; / it is by good fortune that you have developed affection for me, which brings me to you.
10.82.45
For I am the beginning, the end, the inside, and the outside of all beings, / just as ether, water, earth, air, and fire are of material elements, O women.
10.82.46
Thus indeed these elements are pervaded by the self through itself within the elements; / behold both manifested in me, the supreme, imperishable.
10.82.47
Śrī Śuka said:
Thus instructed by Kṛṣṇa with teachings on the supreme self, the gopīs, / the sheaths of their individual souls destroyed by constant remembrance of him, attained him.
10.82.47.p1
And they said: O lotus-navelled one, may your lotus foot, to be contemplated in the heart by masters of yoga of profound intellect,
10.82.48
the support for climbing out for those fallen into the well of the cycle of rebirth, arise always in the minds of even us who take pleasure in the home!
10.82.48.p1
