The sage said: / The Manus, the sons of Manu, the sages, O ruler of the earth, / the Indras, and the hosts of gods all act under the command of the Supreme Person.

8.14.3

The forms of the Cosmic Person described, such as Yajña, O king— / impelled by these, the Manus and the others maintain the order of the world.

8.14.4

As at the end of four yugas, the sages, through ascetic practice, saw / the collections of revealed scripture swallowed up by Time, from which eternal dharma arises.

8.14.5

From that, instructed by Hari, the Manus, dedicated [to their task], / set the four-footed dharma truly in motion upon the earth, each in his own time, O king.

8.14.6

The protectors of offspring protect them section by section until the end, / and the gods enjoy their sacrificial shares, accompanied by their followers.

8.14.7

Indra, enjoying the mighty sovereignty of the three worlds given by the Lord, / protects the three worlds and pours down rain at will upon the world.

8.14.8

And in each yuga, Hari speaks knowledge, assuming the form of a Siddha; / assuming the form of a sage, [He performs] action; and assuming the form of the lord of yoga, [He teaches] yoga.

8.14.9

He performs creation in the form of Prajāpati; He slays outlaws in the form of a sovereign king; / and in the form of Time He brings destruction to all, [manifesting] diverse qualities.

8.14.10

Though praised by these people whose minds are deluded / by His creative power of name and form through various philosophies, He is not perceived.

8.14.11

This has been declared as the measure of a secondary Kalpa, / in which those who know the past say there are fourteen manvantaras.
