9.17.1
Śrī Bādarāyaṇi said: / Ayus was the son of Purūravas; his sons were / Nahuṣa, Kṣatravṛddha, Rajī, the mighty Rābha,
9.17.2
and Anenas, O best of kings. Listen to the lineage of Kṣatravṛddha. / To Suhotra, the son of Kṣatravṛddha, were born three sons:
9.17.3
Kāśya, Kuśa, and Gṛtsamada; from Gṛtsamada was born / Śunaka, whose son was the sage Śaunaka, foremost among the reciters of the Ṛgveda.
9.17.4
Kāśya’s son was Kāśi; his son was Rāṣṭra, the father of Dīrghatamas. / Dhanvantari, the originator of Āyurveda, was born from Dīrghatamas;
9.17.5
he was an enjoyer of sacrifice, a portion of Vāsudeva, who destroys distress by mere remembrance. / His son was Ketumat; from him was born Bhīmaratha;
9.17.6
from him, Divodāsa; and from him Dyumat, remembered as Pratardana. / He is also known as Śatrujit, Vatsa, and Ṛtadhvaja, / and is celebrated as Kuvalayāśva; from him came Alarka and others.
9.17.7
For sixty thousand and sixty hundred years / no one other than Alarka, remaining youthful, enjoyed the earth, O King.
9.17.8
From Alarka came Santati; from him Sunītha; then Niketana; / Dharmaketu was his son, and from him was born Satyaketu;
9.17.9
from him Dhṛṣṭaketu; and from him Sukumāra, the ruler of the earth; / his son was Vītihotra; from him Bharga; and from Bharga came Bhārgabhūmi, O King.
9.17.10
Thus these were the Kāśi kings belonging to the lineage of Kṣatravṛddha. / Rābha’s son was Rabhasa; from him was Gambhīra, and then Akriya;
9.17.11
from his clan was born a knower of Brahman. Listen to the lineage of Anenas: / Śuddha; from him Śuci; from him Citrakṛt; from him Dharmasārathi;
9.17.12
from him was born Śāntarajas, who accomplished his purpose and had self-control. / Rajī had five hundred sons of boundless might.
9.17.13
Entreated by the gods, having slain the Daityas, he gave heaven to Indra; / but Indra, having returned it to him and seized Rajī’s feet,
9.17.14
surrendered himself to him, fearful of enemies headed by Prahrāda. / When the father passed away, the sons did not give [heaven back] to him when he begged for it,
9.17.15
nor the three worlds to Mahendra, but seized the sacrificial shares themselves. / As oblations were being offered in the fire by the preceptor, Indra, the slayer of Bala,
9.17.16
killed the sons of Rajī who had fallen from the right path, leaving none remaining. / From Kuśa, of Kṣatravṛddha's line, came Prati; his son was Sañjaya; his son was Jaya;
9.17.17
from him was born Kṛta; and from Kṛta was born King Haryabala; / then Sahadeva; from him Hīna; his son was Jayasena;
9.17.18
his son was Saṅkṛti; and his son was Jaya, the great warrior who upheld the duties of a kṣatriya. / These were the kings of Kṣatravṛddha’s lineage; now listen to the descendants of Nahuṣa.
