yena rakṣā kṛtā śambhordaityānkṣapayataḥ purā //
The glorious Garuḍa Purāṇa—194.
Hari said:
I shall proclaim the auspicious Vaiṣṇava armour that dispels all diseases, / by which protection was afforded to Śambhu of old as he destroyed the daityas:
1.194.2
praṇamya devamīśānamajaṃ nityamanāmayam /
devaṃ sarveśvaraṃ viṣṇuṃ sarvavyāpinamavyayam //
Having bowed to the Lord, the Ruler, unborn, eternal, free from affliction, / the god Viṣṇu, Lord of all, all-pervading and imperishable,
1.194.3
badhnāmyahaṃ pratisaraṃ namaskṛtya janārdanam /
amoghāpratimaṃ sarvaṃ sarvaduḥ khanivāraṇam //
I bind the protective amulet, having bowed down to Janārdana— / all-infallible, matchless, dispelling all suffering:
1.194.4
viṣṇurmāmagrataḥ pātu kṛṣṇo rakṣatu pṛṣṭhataḥ /
harirme rakṣatu śiro hṛdayañca janārdanaḥ //
May Viṣṇu protect me in front, may Kṛṣṇa protect me from behind, / may Hari protect my head, and Janārdana my heart.
1.194.5
mano mama hṛṣīkeśo jihvāṃ rakṣatu keśavaḥ /
prātu netre vāsudevaḥ śrotre saṅkarṣaṇo vibhuḥ //
May Hṛṣīkeśa protect my mind, may Keśava protect my tongue, / may Vāsudeva protect my eyes, and the all-pervading Saṅkarṣaṇa my ears.
1.194.6
pradyumnaḥ pātu me ghrāṇamaniruddhastu carma ca /
vanamālī galasyāntaṃ śrīvatso rakṣatāmadhaḥ //
May Pradyumna protect my nose, and Aniruddha my skin; / may Vanamālin protect the top of my neck, and may the Śrīvatsa protect below.
1.194.7
pārśvaṃ rakṣatu me cakraṃ vāmaṃ daityanivāraṇam /
dakṣiṇantu gadā devī sarvāsuranivāriṇī //
May the discus, warder of daityas, protect my left flank, / and the divine mace, repellent of all asuras, my right.
1.194.8
udaraṃ musalaṃ pātu pṛṣṭhaṃ me pātu lāṅgalam /
ūrdhvaṃ rakṣatu me śārṅgaṃ jaṅghe rakṣatu nandakaḥ //
May the pestle protect my belly, may the plough protect my back, / may Śārṅga protect me above, and may Nandaka protect my shanks.
1.194.9
pārṣṇo rakṣatu śaṅkhaśca padmaṃ me caraṇāvubhau /
sarvakāryārthasiddhyarthaṃ pātu māṃ garuḍaḥ sadā //
May the conch protect my heels, and the lotus both my feet; / for the accomplishment of all aims and deeds, may Garuḍa protect me always.
1.194.10
varāho rakṣatu jale viṣameṣu ca vāmanaḥ /
aṭavyāṃ narasiṃhaśca sarvataḥ pātu keśavaḥ //
May the Boar protect me in water, and Vāmana in rough terrain, / Narasiṃha in the forest, and Keśava on every side.
1.194.11
hiraṇyagarbho bhagavānhiraṇyaṃ me prayacchatu /
sāṃkhyācāryastu kapilo dhātusāmyaṃ karotu me //
May the Lord Hiraṇyagarbha grant me gold; / may Kapila, teacher of the Sāṅkhya, balance my bodily humours.
1.194.12
śvetadvīpanivāsī ca śvetadvīpaṃ nayatvajaḥ /
sarvānsūdayatāṃ śatrūnmadhukaiṭabhamardanaḥ //
May the Unborn resident of Śvetadvīpa lead me to Śvetadvīpa; / may the crusher of Madhu and Kaiṭabha slay all my enemies.
1.194.13
sadākarṣatu viṣṇuśca kilbiṣaṃ mama vigrahāt /
haṃso matsyastathā kūrmaḥ pātu māṃ sarvatodiśam //
May Viṣṇu continually remove sin from my body; / may the Swan, the Fish, and the Tortoise protect me in every direction.
1.194.14
trivikramastu me devaḥ sarvapāpāni kṛntatu /
tathā nārāyaṇo devo buddhiṃ pālayatāṃ mama //
May the god Trivikrama cut down all my sins; / likewise, may the god Nārāyaṇa preserve my intellect.
1.194.15

vaḍavāmukho nāśayatāṃ kalmaṣaṃ yatkṛtaṃ mayā //
May Śeṣa produce pure knowledge for me, destroying ignorance; / may the Submarine Fire destroy whatever defilement I have done.

dattātreyaḥ prakurutāṃ saputrapaśubāndhavam //
May the Lord bestow supreme happiness on my feet and head; / may Datta make me rich with sons, cattle, and kin.
1.194.17
sarvānarīnnāśayatu rāmaḥ paraśunā mama /
rakṣoghnastu daśarathiḥ pātu nityaṃ mahābhujaḥ //
May Rāma destroy all my enemies with his axe; / may the mighty-armed son of Daśaratha, slayer of rākṣasas, protect me always.
1.194.18
śatrīnhalena me hanyādrāmo yādavanandanaḥ /
pralambakeśicāṇūrapūtanākaṃsanāśanaḥ /
kṛṣṇasya yo bālabhāvaḥ sa me kāmānprayacchatu //
May Rāma, delight of the Yādavas, strike my enemies with his plough; / may the childhood form of Kṛṣṇa—slayer of Pralamba, Keśin, Cāṇūra, Pūtanā, and Kaṃsa—grant me my desires.
1.194.19
andhakāratamoghoraṃ puruṣaṃ kṛṣṇaṣiṅgalam /
paśyāmi bhayasantrastaḥ pāśahastamivāntakam //
Terrified with fear, I behold a man, dread as utter darkness, / dark and reddish-brown, like Death holding a noose in his hand.
1.194.20
tato 'haṃ puṇḍarīkākṣamacyutaṃ śaraṇaṃ gataḥ /
dhanyo 'haṃ nirbhayo nityaṃ yasya me bhagavānhariḥ //
Then I have taken refuge with the lotus-eyed, infallible Lord; / blessed am I, ever fearless, who have the Lord Hari.
1.194.21
dhyātvā nārāyaṇaṃ devaṃ sarvopadravanāśanam /
vaiṣṇavaṃ kavacaṃ baddhvā vicarāmi mahītale //
Having meditated upon the god Nārāyaṇa, destroyer of all afflictions, / and bound on the Vaiṣṇava armour, I roam the surface of the earth.
1.194.22
apradhṛṣyo 'smi bhūtānāṃ sarvadevamayo hyaham /
smaraṇāddevadevasya viṣṇoramitatejasaḥ //
I am invulnerable to beings, indeed comprising all the gods, / through remembering the God of gods, Viṣṇu of boundless splendour.
1.194.23
siddhirbhavatu me nityaṃ yathāmantramudāhṛtam /
yo māṃ paśyati cakṣurbhyāṃ yañcaḥ paśyāmi cakṣuṣā /
sarveṣāṃ pāpaduṣṭānāṃ viṣṇurbadhnātu cakṣuṣī //
May success be mine always, according as the mantra has been recited! / Whoever looks upon me with his eyes, and whomever I look upon with my eye, / may Viṣṇu blind the eyes of all those wicked with evil.
1.194.24
vāsudevasya yaccakraṃ tasya cakrasya ye tvarāḥ /
te hi cchindantu pāpānme mama hiṃsantu hiṃsakān //
The spokes of Vāsudeva’s discus: / may they sever my sins, and may they destroy those who injure me!
1.194.25
rākṣaseṣu piśāceṣu kāntāreṣvaṭavīṣu ca /
vivāde rājamārgeṣu dyūteṣu kalaheṣu ca //
Among rākṣasas and piśācas, in desolate wastes and forests, / in disputes, on the royal highways, in gambling, and in quarrels,
1.194.26
nadīsantāraṇe ghore saṃprāpte prāṇasaṃśaye /
agnicauranipāteṣu sarvagrahanivāraṇe //
In crossing a dangerous river, when peril to life has arrived, / during assaults of fire and thieves, and in averting all planetary afflictions,
1.194.27
vidyutsarpaviṣodvege roge vai vighnasaṅkaṭe /
japyametajjapennityaṃ śarīre bhayamāgate //
In agitation from lightning, snakes, or poison, in sickness, and in times of obstacles, / one should constantly mutter this recitation when fear has come to the body.
1.194.28
ayaṃ bhagavato mantro mantrāṇāṃ paramo mahān /
vikhyātaṃ kavacaṃ guhyaṃ sarpapāpapraṇāśanam /
svamāyākṛtinirmāṇaṃ kalpāntagahanaṃ mahat //
This is the mantra of the Lord, supreme and great among mantras, / renowned as the secret armour that destroys all sins, / created through his own power of māyā, profound and vast until the end of the aeon.

Render this body wholesome for me against daityas, dānavas, yakṣas, rākṣasas, bhūtas, piśācas, kūṣmāṇḍas, ending with epilepsy, vomiting, difficult-to-cure conditions, quotidian, tertian, quartan, and intermittent fevers, day-fevers, night-fevers, twilight-fevers, all kinds of fevers, and spiders, insects, thistles, pūtanās, serpents, inanimate and animate poisons! Sphuṭa sphuṭa sphuṭa prakoṭa laphaṭa, O one with dreadful fangs, protect from the east! Oṃ hai hai hai hai, struck down by the time of a thousand suns, be victorious, protect from the west! Oṃ nivi nivi, O great Kapila with the appearance of ablaze burning fire, protect from the north! Oṃ vili vili mili mili garuḍi garuḍi, let Gāurī, Gāndhārī enchant the venomous poison, svāhā! Protect from the south, look upon me, protect, protect from all dangers and afflictions of creatures! Jaya, jaya, vijaya! By him the enemy's terror born of pride is dispelled, from the dispeller of fear let fearlessness be granted by Acyuta! / Let them enter his entire belly, countless like thousands of yuga-cycles, as the rays enter the setting sun. / May Vāsudeva, Saṃkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha, / Viṣṇu, Nārāyaṇa, and Hari slay all my fevers.
