Sūta said:
Thus the sage born from the lotus [seated upon] Rudra heard from Viṣṇu, [and] Vyāsa [heard] from Brahmā.
From Vyāsa, I shall speak to you, O Śaunaka, in the Naimiṣa [Forest].

tīrthaṃ bhuvanakośaṃ ca manvantaramihocyate //

devānvijitya garuḍo hyamṛtāharaṇaṃ tathā //

yaṃ dṛṣṭvā smṛtamātreṇa nāgāndīnāṃ ca saṃkṣayaḥ //
and performed [deeds, he] whose hunger removed [the distress of] the egg of the universe within the belly of Hari,
[and] at the mere sight and remembrance of whom the destruction of serpents and the rest [occurs].
1.3.8
kaśyapo gāruḍādvṛkṣaṃ dagdhaṃ cājīvayadyataḥ /
garuḍaḥ sa haristena proktaṃ śrīkaśyapāya ca //
