1.200.1

The glorious Garuḍa Purāṇa, Chapter 200. / Bhairava said: / I shall explain, O goddess, victory through the breath, victory, defeat, and travels abroad, / and the four auspicious [elements] named Wind, Fire, Water, and Indra.

1.200.2

Wind resides in the left and the right, and is abundant; / Fire flows upward, and Varuṇa flows downward.

1.200.3

Mahendra resides in the middle; during the bright fortnight it goes on the left, / and in the dark fortnight it goes on the right, flowing for three days each from sunrise.

1.200.4

It should flow on the first lunar day and so forth; if it is reversed, there is misfortune. / If sunrise occurs by the solar path and sunset by the lunar [path],

1.200.5

the multitudes of good qualities increase; otherwise, obstacles properly follow. / Sixteen transitions of breath are proclaimed in the day and night, O fair-faced lady.

1.200.6

When the wind shifts after remaining for half of half a watch (forty-five minutes), / a loss of health is then to be recognized, as the wind wanders in embodied beings.

1.200.7

The breath in the right nostril is beneficial for eating and sexual intercourse; / sword in hand, filled with desire, one would conquer enemies in battle.

1.200.8

On the left side, departure is best and adorned with success in all undertakings; / when the breath flows abiding there, an inquiry about what has occurred is auspicious.

1.200.9

When the wind belongs to Mahendra or Varuṇa, no fault whatsoever arises; / when it flows on the right, there is drought; when it flows on the left, there is rain.

1.200.9.p1

Thus ends the two hundredth chapter in the Ācārakāṇḍa, designated as the first section, in the Pūrvakhaṇḍa of the glorious Garuḍa Purāṇa.
