### [1.75.1](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.1)

Sūta said: / Vāyu, having seized the claws of the lord of the Daityas, joyfully cast them into auspicious lotus groves; / thence was born, produced by the wind, / the karketana gem, most revered upon earth.

### [1.75.2](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.2)

In colour it shines like blood, the moon, and honey, illuminated with copper, yellow, and fire; / but blue, white, rough, or fractured, / it shines adversely, causing diseases and other defects.

### [1.75.3](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.3)

Glossy, pure, evenly tinted, yellowish in colour, / heavy, variegated, and free from flaws, fractures, and serpentine veins— / those karketanas are exceedingly pure.

### [1.75.4](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.4)

When wrapped in a sheet of gold and heated in fire it becomes luminous, / it destroys disease, ends strife, / increases lifespan, expands the family line, and bestows happiness.

### [1.75.5](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.5)

Men who wear such a karketana gem endowed with many virtues for auspicious adornment / become revered, endowed with great wealth and many kinsmen, / and are ever radiant and joyful.

### [1.75.6](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.6)

Some, having tied on \[stones of\] deformed and murky blue luster, faint colour, / turbid, disfigured, lacking fire, intense brilliance, and fullness of hue, / merely bear a semblance of the karketana.

### [1.75.7](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.7)

If a karketana, examined for colour and form, is brilliant like the newly risen sun, / the value of that weighed gem should be appraised as equal / to that which is declared by the majesty of connoisseurs of the gem treatises.

### [1.75.7.p1](https://indike.org/pramana/in.purana.garuda~en-mt.1.75.7.p1)

Thus ends the seventy-fifth chapter, entitled 'Examination of Karketana', in the Ācārakāṇḍa of the first part of the first section of the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa.
