1.77.1
Sūta said: / On sacred supreme mountains, rivers, and other places, having reached the northern region, / having worshipped the lord of the Dānavas, / [the nails] were deposited in renowned places, possessing the luster of claws and arms.
1.77.2
In Daśārṇa, Vagadara, Mekala, and Kālagā, coloured like the guñjā berry, collyrium, honey, or lotus root, / and shining like gandharvas, fire, or the plantain tree, / these praiseworthy pulaka gems are produced.
1.77.3
Possessing varied tints like conch, lotus, bee, and the sun, devoid of threads, exceedingly pure, / endowed with auspiciousness, and variegated with many designs, / those pulakas bestow prosperity.
1.77.4
Those [gems] having fierce shapes resembling crows, dogs, donkeys, jackals, or wolves, or vultures with mouths moist with flesh and blood, / bring death and should be avoided by the wise; the price of one pala is said to be five hundred [coins].
1.77.4.p1
Thus ends the seventy-seventh chapter, entitled “Examination of Pulaka Gems,” in the section on conduct, the first division of the first section of the glorious and great Garuḍa Purāṇa.
