At what time should they be presented, accomplishing the satisfaction of the pretas?
2.37.3
The Holy Kṛṣṇa said:
I will declare again truly the gift of the water-jar.
They should be given dedicated to the preta, accompanied by food and water;

well pleased by that gift, the preta departs with the messengers of Yama.

having made the intention there according to rule for twelve jars.

One water-pitcher there, filled with cooked food and fruits,
should be given dedicated to Viṣṇu, having vowed it to an auspicious Brahmin.
2.37.9
One [jar] indeed to Dharmarāja; when he is pleased, one attains liberation;
and one to Citragupta; gone there, one will be happy.
2.37.10
The sixteen and other [jars] should be given, filled with bean food and water.
2.37.11
Beginning with the funeral rite at departure up to the sixteen śrāddhas,
one should offer [a jar] to each of sixteen Brahmins.
2.37.12
Beginning from the eleventh day, daily should be given [a jar] named Dṛḍha,
filled with cooked food and water, every day until the end of a year.

Large water-vessels and jars are given,
and one water-pitcher there; upon it a vessel made of bamboo.
2.37.14
One should cover it with a cloth, having worshipped it with fragrant scents;
one should cause them to be given filled with water, especially to Brahmins.
2.37.15
Having made the intention day after day according to rule, O King of Birds,
[it should be given] to a noble Brahmin endowed with Vedic conduct,
2.37.16
It should be given to one endowed with learning and conduct, never to a fool;
one rich in Vedic conduct is capable both of delivering [others] and crossing over [himself].
