Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa—Chapter 43
Śrī Viṣṇu said:
Those who have fallen by water, fire, or hanging, or who have lapsed from mendicancy or a death-fast, / are purified by two Cāndrāyaṇa penances after giving a cow and a bull.
2.43.2
For a child under twelve years of age and over four years old, / the mother, father, or another kinsman shall perform the penance.
2.43.3
For this reason, a child has neither fault nor sin; / he has no royal punishment, and no penance is prescribed for him.
2.43.4
If a woman becomes sick at the sight of blood [or] when bitten [by a snake], / on the fourth day, abandoning [her cloth covering] the feet and other parts, she is purified after bathing.
2.43.5
When a bath is required for a sick person, an healthy person, / bathing ten times and touching him each time, thereby purifies that sick person.
2.43.5.p1
Thus ends the forty-third chapter, entitled 'Determination of Purification', in the Pretakalpa of the Dharmakāṇḍa, in the second part of the Uttarakhaṇḍa of the glorious Garuḍa Mahāpurāṇa, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Garuḍa.
