60.1

Mārkaṇḍeya said: / But that realm which is Kimpuruṣa, that I shall describe, O twice-born, / where the life span of well-formed men is ten thousand [years],

60.2

where men as well as women are free from disease and grief; / and a very great plakṣa tree grove is spoken of there, resembling Nandana.

60.3

Always drinking the juice of its fruits, the men / are endowed with steadfast youth, and the women are fragrant as blue lotuses.

60.4

Beyond Kimpuruṣa, Harivarṣa is spoken of; / the people born there resemble gold.

60.5

All of them have fallen from the world of the gods, and all have the form of gods; / in Harivarṣa, all men drink auspicious sugarcane juice.

60.6

Old age does not afflict them there, nor do they ever decay; / they live for that long a time, free from illness.

60.7

The central region of Meru has been spoken of by me as Ilāvṛta; / the sun does not burn there, nor do those humans grow old.

60.8

The rays of the moon and the sun, / of the asterisms and the planets, have no effect there; the supreme luster belongs to Meru.

60.9

Radiant like lotuses, smelling like lotuses, eating the juice of the rose-apple fruit, / men are born there with eyes as long as lotus petals.

60.10

There too, their lifespan is thirteen thousand years; / the plateau has the shape of a shallow dish around Mount Meru in Ilāvṛta.

60.11

Meru is the great mountain there; thus is Ilāvṛta described. / Beyond this, I shall describe the Ramyaka realm; listen to that.

60.12

There too is a tall banyan tree with green leaves; / drinking the juice of its fruits as well, they indeed sustain themselves.

60.13

The men there, enjoying its fruit, have a lifespan of ten thousand years; / they are pure, delighting chiefly in sexual pleasure, free from old age and foul odors.

60.14

Beyond that, to the north, is the realm known by name as Hiraṇmaya, / where the river Hiraṇvatī flows, brilliant with abundant lotuses.

60.15

The people born there are endowed with great strength and splendor; / they are large-bodied, possessed of great vitality, wealthy, and handsome to look upon.
