84.1
The Lord said: / Now next I will declare the supreme mountain of salt, / by giving which a man attains worlds united with Śiva.
84.2
The best mountain of salt should be made of sixteen droṇas; / the middling should be half of that, and the lowest is remembered to be of four.
84.3
One lacking wealth should make it above one droṇa according to his ability; / he should make the buttress mountains separately with a fourth of the portion.
84.4
One should always perform the rites for Brahmā and the others as before, / and likewise install all the guardians of the directions made of gold.
84.5
Lakes, Kāmadeva and the other [deities] should also likewise be made here; / one should also keep a night-vigil. Hear now the mantras of donation:
84.6
"Since this salt-flavor is born of the lake of fortune, / protect me, best of mountains, by virtue of my being the giver of it!
84.7
Since without salt all tastes of food are not delicious, / and since it is always dear to Śiva and Śivā, therefore grant me peace!
84.8
Since you arose from the body of Viṣṇu and increase health, / therefore protect [me] from the ocean of worldly existence in the form of a mountain!"
84.9
Whoever gives a mountain of salt according to this rule / dwells in the world of Umā for an eon, and from there goes to the highest state.
