peerless, unknowable—[this] liṅga is proclaimed by the great seers.

the Supreme Lord, agitated them through supreme yoga.
6.2.5.28
yathā saṃnidhimātreṇa gaṃdhaḥ kṣobhāya jāyate ..
Just as fragrance causes an agitation merely by its presence,
6.2.5.29
manaso nopakartṛtvāttathāsau parameśvaraḥ ..
without acting directly upon the mind, so that Supreme Lord,
6.2.5.30
anādiḥ kathyate devo jagatkāraṇatatparam ..14..
the beginningless God, is spoken of as the supreme cause of the world.
6.2.5.31
pradhānaṃ kṣobhyamāṇaṃ tu tena liṃgena pārvati ..

experiencing it and attaining the nature of Brahmā, he initiates creation.
6.2.5.39

attaining the nature of Viṣṇu, he preserves them according to dharma.

the three worlds, he indeed sleeps—the possessor of the three qualities, yet devoid of qualities.
6.2.5.43

6.2.5.46
viṣṇutve pāti tānsarvāṃstisro'vasthāḥ smṛtāḥ sadā .. 22 ..
in the nature of Viṣṇu he protects them all. These three states are always remembered:
6.2.5.47
rajo brahmā tamo rudraḥ sattvaṃ viṣṇurjagatpatiḥ ..
Passion is Brahmā, darkness is Rudra, and goodness is Viṣṇu, the lord of the world.

“I am superior! I am superior!” at the start of the aeon, concerning the cause of creation,
6.2.5.54
divyā samutthitā vāṇī nirālaṃbā tadāṃbarāt .. .. 26 ..
a divine voice arose then from the sky without support:
6.2.5.55
mahākālavane liṃgaṃ kalpeśvareti saṃjñakam ..
“In the Mahākāla forest there is a liṅga named Kalpeśvara;
6.2.5.56
tasyādimathavāṃtaṃ ca yaḥ paśyati sa ca prabhuḥ ..
whoever perceives its beginning or its end, he shall be the lord.
6.2.5.57
bhaviṣyati na saṃdeho na vādaḥ kriyatā miti .. 27 ..
There is no doubt about it; let no dispute be made.”
6.2.5.58
tato devi gato brahmā ūrddhvalokamanaṃtakam ..
Then, O goddess, Brahmā went to the endless upper world;
6.2.5.59
adholokaṃ gato viṣṇustena vākyena satvaram .. 28 ..
prompted by that statement, Viṣṇu quickly went to the lower world.
6.2.5.60
nādirdṛṣṭo na cāṃtaśca brahmaṇā keśavena tu ..
Neither its beginning nor its end was seen by Brahmā or by Keśava.
6.2.5.61
tadā tau vismayāpannau tuṣṭuvāte parasparam .. 29 ..
Then, filled with wonder, they praised [the liṅga] to each other.

“There is no beginning, nor is there an end, nor is any limit seen here.
6.2.5.64
tasmādanādikalpo'yamadyaprabhṛti bhūtale ..
Therefore, from this day forth on the surface of the earth, this beginningless aeon [Lord]

the savior from the ocean of saṃsāra, O Lord, is not seen.
