My wings seem to break, and my eyes seem to go blind;

Or what else is there to say with many words? Along with the breaths of my sighing,

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.48

mama prāṇāśca niyataṃ nirgacchaṃtīva sāṃpratam .. 22 ..

my vital breaths seem surely to be departing now.

ahaṃkāramadagraṃthirayaṃ truṭatu cittataḥ ..

May this knot of pride and egoism break in my mind;

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.50

Having so resolved in his mind, the Creator, filled with wonder,

pratyabhāṣata taṃ kastvaṃ kuto vā prāptavāniti ..

addressed him: “Who are you, or where have you come from?”

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.58

sa ca pratyabravīdenaṃ vedhasaṃ ketakacchadaḥ .. 27 ..

And that ketaka petal replied to Vedhas:

1.2.12.59

ketakacchada evāsaṃ sacaitanyaḥ śivājñayā ..

“I was merely a ketaka petal, endowed with consciousness by the command of Śiva,

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.60

tejastaṃbhātmanaḥ śaṃbhorasya mūrdhni ciraṃ sthitaḥ .. 28 ..

and for a long time I rested upon the head of Śambhu, who is the pillar of fire.

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.61

bhūloka icchayā vastuṃ tataḥ saṃprāptavānaham ..29..

Desiring to dwell in the mortal world, I have come down from there.”

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.62

itthaṃ śrutvā ketakībarhavācaṃ labdhvāśvāsaṃ taṃ kilāṃbhojabhūtiḥ ..

Having thus heard the words of the ketakī petal, the lotus-born [Brahmā] gained reassurance and said:

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.63

brūhi tvaṃ me tatkiyatyaṃtare vā tejaḥstaṃbhasyāgramityāvabhāṣe .. 1.3.2.12.30 ..

“Tell me, at what distance is the top of the pillar of fire?”

English (machine translation) (machine translation)

1.2.12.64

iti śrīskāṃde mahāpurāṇa ekāśītisāhasryāṃ saṃhitāyāṃ prathame māheśvarakhaṇḍe'ruṇācalamāhātmya uttarārdhe brahmaṇā liṃgoparibhāgaśodhanavarṇanaṃnāma dvādaśo'dhyāyaḥ .. 12..

Thus ends the twelfth chapter, entitled “Description of Brahmā's Search for the Upper Part of the Liṅga,” in the second half of the Aruṇācalamāhātmya, in the first Māheśvarakhaṇḍa of the glorious Skandapurāṇa, a collection of eighty-one thousand verses.
