1.3.23.76
asya gotraṃ kulaṃ nāma na jānaṃti hi parvata..
brahmādayo hi vivudhā anyeṣāṃ caiva kā kathā.. 25.76 ..
Neither the gods headed by Brahmā know his gotra, family, or name, O mountain; / what then to say of others?
1.3.23.77
tvaṃ hi mūḍhatvamāpanno na jānāsi hi kiṃcana..
vācyāvācyaṃ maheśasya viṣayā hi bahirmukhāḥ.. 25.77 ..
You have fallen into ignorance and know nothing at all; / the [qualities] to be spoken or unspoken of Maheśa are beyond worldly perception, for senses face outward.
1.3.23.78
yeye āgamikāścādre naṣṭāste nātra saṃśayaḥ..
arūpoyaṃ virūpākṣo hyakulīno'yamucyate.. 25.78 ..
Whichever traditionalists [speak otherwise], O mountain, are ruined, there is no doubt of this. / He is formless, yet odd-eyed (virūpākṣa); he is spoken of as having no lineage (akulīna).
1.3.23.79
agotro'yaṃ giriśreṣṭha jāmātā te na saṃśayaḥ..
na karttavyo vimarśo'tra bhavatā vibudhena hi.. 25.79 ..
He is without gotra (agotra), O best of mountains, your son-in-law, without doubt. / No hesitation should be made here by you, an intelligent one.
1.3.23.80
na jānaṃti haraṃ sarve kiṃ bahūktyā mama prabho..
yasyājñānānmahābhāga mohitā ṛṣayo hyamī.. 25.80 ..
All do not know Hara—what is the use of my speaking much, O lord? / Through ignorance of him, O illustrious one, these seers have been bewildered.
1.3.23.81
brahmāpi taṃ na jānāti mastakaṃ parameṣṭhinaḥ..
viṣṇurgato hi pātālaṃ na dṛṣṭo hi tathaiva ca.. 25.81 ..
Even Brahmā does not know the head of the supreme lord; / Viṣṇu went to Pātāla, and likewise did not see [the base].
1.3.23.82
tena liṃgena mahatā hyagādhena jagattrayam..
vyāptamastīti tadviddhi kimanena prayojanam.. 25.82 ..
Know that the three worlds are pervaded by that great, bottomless liṅga! / What is the use of this [questioning about gotra]?
1.3.23.83
anayārādhitaṃ nūnaṃ tava putryā himālaya..
tattvato hi na jānāsi kathaṃ caiva mahāgire.. 25.83 ..
He was surely propitiated by this daughter of yours, O Himālaya. / How is it that you truly do not know him, O great mountain?
1.3.23.84
ābhyāmutpādyate viśvamābhyāṃ caiva pratiṣṭhitam..
etacchrutvā vacastasya nāradasya mahātmanaḥ.. 25.84 ..
By these two the universe is generated, and by these two it is sustained.” / Hearing this speech of that great-souled Nārada,
1.3.23.85
himādripramukhāḥ sarve tathā ceṃdrapurogamāḥ..
sādhusādhviti te sarve ūcurvismitamānasāḥ.. 25.85 ..
all [the guests] headed by Himādri, as well as those led by Indra, / with astonished minds, all said, “Well done! Well done!”
1.3.23.86
īśvarasya tu gāṃbhīryaṃ jñātvā sarve vicakṣaṇāḥ..
vismayena samāśliṣṭā ūcuḥ sarve parasparam.. 25.86 ..
Knowing the profound depth of Īśvara, all the wise ones, / embraced by wonder, spoke to one another.
1.3.23.87
..ṛṣaya ūcuḥ..
yasyājñayā jagadidaṃ ca viśālameva jātaṃ parātparamidaṃ nijabodharūpam..
sarvaṃ svataṃtraparameśvarabhāgamyaṃ so'sau trilokanijarūpayuto mahātmā.. 25.87 ..
The seers said: / “By whose command this vast world has arisen, which is beyond the highest, possessing the nature of his own consciousness, / accessible through devotion to the independent supreme lord—he is this great-souled one, endowed with the true form of the three worlds.”
