adya śāpahatānputryaḥ kariṣyāmi na saṃśayaḥ .. 53 ..
Whether the asuras with their followers, or whoever else among the best of the gods [it may be], / I shall today make them struck down by a curse, O daughters—of this there is no doubt.”

Being thus addressed by Dakṣa, all of them declared:

gatvā caṃdraṃ mahādevi śaśāpa pramukhe sthitam.. 57 ..
Hearing their words, Dakṣa was filled with wrath. / Going to the Moon standing before him, O great goddess, he cursed him:

anādṛtya hi me vākyaṃ yasmāttvaṃ rohiṇīrataḥ ..
saṃtyajya putrīścāsmākaṃ śeṣā doṣeṇa varjitāḥ ..
tasmādyakṣmā śarīraṃ te grasiṣyati na saṃśayaḥ.. .. 58 ..
“Since, disregarding my command, you remain devoted to Rohiṇī, / having abandoned the rest of my daughters who are free from fault, / therefore consumption shall seize your body, without a doubt.”
16.21.59
etasminneva kāle tu yakṣmā parvataputrike ..

devi kāryaṃ kimadhunā tvatpitrā śāpito hyaham..
kṣayakuṣṭhena saṃyuktaḥ kiṃ karomyadhunā priye..63..
“O goddess, what is to be done now? Indeed, I have been cursed by your father! / Afflicted with consumptive disease, what shall I do now, beloved?”
16.21.64
evamuktā rohiṇī tu bāṣpavyākulalocanā..
dakṣaśāpahataṃ dṛṣṭvā somaṃ vacanamabravīt..64..
Thus addressed, Rohiṇī, her eyes filled with tears, / seeing Soma stricken by Dakṣa's curse, spoke these words:
16.21.65
yena śāpastu te dattastameva śaraṇaṃ vraja..
sa te śāpābhibhūtasya nūnaṃ śreyo vidhāsyati.. 65..
“Go for refuge to that very one by whom the curse was given to you. / He will surely bring about good for you who are overwhelmed by the curse.
16.21.66
lapsyase tatprasādāttvaṃ prabhāṃ pūrvocitāṃ śubhām.. 66..
By his grace, you will regain your former auspicious splendor.”

rohiṇyā vacanaṃ śrutvā gato dakṣasamīpataḥ ..
caṃdraḥ provāca vinayādvāṣpa vyākulalocanaḥ .. 67 ..

kopaṃ tyaja maharṣe tvaṃ mamopari dayāṃ kuru .1 68 ..
“Show favor, O Dakṣa, with a gracious inner heart. / Renounce your anger, O great seer, and have pity upon me!
16.21.69
tvayā krodhaparītena kāraṇe vāpyakāraṇe ..
anukaṃpāṃ ca me kṛtvā kāryaṃ śāpasya mokṣaṇam.. 69 ..
Whether with cause or without cause [it was done] by you overwhelmed with wrath, / have compassion on me and effect the release of the curse!
16.21.70
viditaṃ tu mahābhāga śaptohaṃ yena karmaṇā ..
kuruṣvānugrahaṃ dakṣa mama dīnasya yācataḥ .. 7.1.21.70 ..
It is known, O noble one, by what deed I was cursed; / grant favor, O Dakṣa, to me who am miserable and begging!”
16.21.71
evaṃ vilapamānasya somasya tu mahātmanaḥ ..
anugrahe matiṃ kṛtvā idaṃ vacanamabravīt ..71..
As the great-souled Soma was thus lamenting, / making up his mind to grant grace, [Dakṣa] spoke these words:

.. dakṣa uvāca .. ..
mayā śāpahataḥ soma trātuṃ śakyo na daivataiḥ..
yadyadbravīmyahaṃ soma tattatheti na saṃśayaḥ .. 72 ..

16.21.73
āyuḥ karma ca vittaṃ ca vidyā nidhanameva ca ..
pūrvasṛṣṭāni yānyeva saṃbhavaṃti hi tāni vai .. 73 ..
Lifespan, actions, wealth, learning, and death itself— / whatever has been created beforehand, those indeed come to pass.
16.21.74
asurāśca surāścaiva ye cānye yakṣarākṣasāḥ ..
sarvepi śaktā na trātuṃ varjayitvā maheśvaram ..74..
Asuras and gods, and whatever other yakṣas and rākṣasas there are, / are all incapable of protecting [you], except Maheśvara.
16.21.75
eṣāṃ śāpo mayā datto'nugrahīṣya ti śaṃkaraḥ..
nānyastrātuṃ bhavecchakto vinā paśupatiṃ bhavam ..
tattvaṃ śīghrataraṃ gaccha samārādhaya śaṃkara .. 75 ..
A curse was given to these by me, [and] Śaṃkara will bestow his grace. / No other could be able to protect [you], except Bhava, Paśupati. / Therefore go very quickly [and] worship Śaṃkara.
16.21.76
na śakto'nyaḥ punaścaṃdraḥ kartuṃ tvāṃ nirmalaṃ punaḥ..

tatsthānāni cariṣyāmi yāni tāni vadasva me .. 79 ..
In what place, O Dakṣa, am I to behold that Maheśvara? / I will go to those places; speak to me of whichever they are.
