The brahmahatyā has also come to strike him.
2.1.14.75
syādyathā me putro'yaṃ mahāpātakamocitaḥ .. 34 ..
Tell that means by which this son of mine may be freed from the great sin,
2.1.14.76
ghorā ca brahmahatyeyaṃ yathā śīghraṃ layaṃ vrajet ..
and how this terrible brahmahatyā may quickly come to an end;

show compassion toward my son today!
2.1.14.78
ayameva hi putro me nānyo'sti tanayo mune ..
For this alone is my son; I have no other child, O sage.

nāsya pāpasya śātiḥ syātprāyaścittāyutairapi .. .. 39 ..
There can be no pacification of this sin even through tens of thousands of expiations.
2.1.14.87
tathāpi te sutasyāhaṃ tasya pāpasya śāntaye ..
Nevertheless, for the pacification of that sin of your son,
2.1.14.88
prāyaścittaṃ vadiṣyāmi śṛṇu nānyamanā dvija .. 2.1.14.40 ..
I will proclaim an expiation. Listen with an undivided mind, O brahmin!

putramādāya sumatiṃ svāmipuṣkariṇīṃgataḥ ..
taking his son Sumati, went to Svāmipuṣkariṇī.

evaṃ vaḥ kathitaṃ viprā itihāsaṃ purātanam..
Thus has this ancient history been told to you, O brahmins;
