2.7.23.70
mā śaṃkā te surapate karmādhīnamidaṃ jagat..
“Have no fear, O lord of gods; this universe is subject to karma.
2.7.23.71

2.7.23.72
pūrvakarmānurodhena bhavaṃtyete na saṃśayaḥ..
these arise in accordance with past actions, without a doubt.
2.7.23.73
jīvaḥ karmānugo duḥkhaṃ diṣṭaṃ daivena kālataḥ.. 36..

2.7.23.78
.. indra uvāca ..
Indra said:
2.7.23.79
parastrīsaṃgadoṣeṇa balaṃ vīryaṃ yaśo'malam ..
“Due to the sin of union with another's wife, my strength, prowess, spotless fame,
2.7.23.80
maṃtraśaktiḥśāstraśaktirvidyāśaktiśca mānada .. 39 ..
the power of mantras, the power of sacred texts, and the power of knowledge, O giver of honor,
2.7.23.81
abhavannaṣṭavīryaṃ me tūṣṇīṃ tena vasāmyaham ..
have become stripped of vigor; because of that, I remain silent.”
2.7.23.82
pākaśāsanavākyaṃ tu śrutvā svācāryasaṃyu'tāḥ .. 2.7.23.40 ..
Having heard the words of Pākaśāsana, [the gods], joined by their teacher,
2.7.23.83
maṃtrayāmāsurekānte punastasya balāptaye ..
deliberated in secret to regain his strength.
2.7.23.84
tadā guruśca tānprāha karuṇaṃ ca viduttamaḥ .. 41 ..
Then their guru, the foremost of the wise, spoke to them with compassion:
2.7.23.85
bṛhaspatiruvāca..
Bṛhaspati said:
2.7.23.86
māso vaiśākhanāmā'yaṃ priyo vai madhughātinaḥ..
“This month named Vaiśākha is indeed dear to the slayer of Madhu.
2.7.23.87
sarvāśca tithayaḥ puṇyā māse'sminmādhavapriye..42..
All the lunar days in this month dear to Mādhava are auspicious.
2.7.23.88
tatrā'pi ca site pakṣe māse'sminnakṣayāhvayā ..
Even there, in the bright fortnight in this month, the day called Akṣayā [arrives];
2.7.23.89
yā tasyāṃ snānadānādi śraddhayā ca karoti vai ..43..
whoever performs ritual ablution, giving of gifts, and the like with faith upon it,
2.7.23.90
tasya pāpasahasrāṇi naśyaṃtyeva na saṃśayaḥ..
thousands of his sins are indeed destroyed, without a doubt.
2.7.23.91
anavadyaṃ tathaiśvaryaṃ balaṃ dhairyaṃ bhavaṃti ca ..44..
Faultless sovereignty, strength, and courage also arise.
2.7.23.92
tasmāttasyāṃ tṛtīyāyāṃ hariṇā balavidviṣā ..
Therefore, on that third day, for the slayer of Vala,
2.7.23.93
snānadānādisaddharmānkārayāmo hitā''ptaye ..45..
let us cause the pious duties of ablution, gifting, and the like to be performed for obtaining his welfare.
2.7.23.94
bhaviṣyati ca sā śaktirvidyāyā mantraśāstrayoḥ ..
And that power of learning, of mantra, and of sacred texts will return;
2.7.23.95
balaṃ dhairyaṃ yaśaścaiva yathāpūrvaṃ bhaviṣyati .. 46 ..
his strength, courage, and fame will become just as before.”
2.7.23.96
ityevaṃ tu vicāryātha gururdevaiḥ samāhitaḥ ..
Having thus deliberated, the guru, concentrated in mind along with the gods,
2.7.23.97
indreṇa kārayāmāsa dharmānetānharipriyān.. 47 ..
caused these pious duties dear to Hari to be performed by Indra.
2.7.23.98
akṣayyāyāṃ tṛtīyāyāṃ bhuktimuktiphalapradān ..
On the Akṣayyā Tṛtīyā, which grants the fruits of enjoyment and liberation,
2.7.23.99
tena pūrvavadevā''sīdbalaṃ dhairyādikaṃ vibhoḥ .. .. 48 ..
by that the lord's strength, courage, and the rest became just as before.
2.7.23.100
parastrīsaṃgadoṣo'pi sadya eva vyalīyata ..
Even the sin of union with another's wife vanished immediately.
2.7.23.101
paścāddhatāśubhaḥ śakro rāhormukta ivoḍupaḥ .. 49 ..
Afterward, with misfortune destroyed, Śakra shone like the moon released from Rāhu;
2.7.23.102
devatānāṃ tathā madhye śuśubhe ca hariryathā ..
and in the midst of the deities, he shone just like Hari.
2.7.23.103
paścāddevaiḥ samāyukto vinirjitya tathā'surān .. 2.7.23.50 ..
Then, joined with the gods, having conquered the Asuras,
2.7.23.104
tṛtīyāyāśca māhātmyādbhāgyayukto'marāvatīm ..
endowed with good fortune through the māhātmya of the third day,
2.7.23.105
viveśa vibhavaiḥ sārddhaṃ śaṃkhatūryādiniḥsvanaiḥ .. 51 ..
he entered Amarāvatī along with riches, amidst the sounds of conches, musical horns, and drums.
2.7.23.106
anujñātāśca śakreṇa svadhāmāni yayuḥ surāḥ ..
Permitted by Śakra, the gods went to their own abodes;
2.7.23.107
tataste yajñabhāgāṃśca lebhire ca yathā purā .. 52 ..
then they obtained their shares of sacrifice just as of old.
2.7.23.108
piṃḍabhāgāṃśca pitaro yathāpūrvaṃ prapedire ..
The ancestors received their portions of funeral cakes just as before.
2.7.23.109
svādhyāye munayastuṣṭā daityānāṃ ca parājayaḥ .. 53 ..
The sages were satisfied in their Vedic recitation, and the Daityas met defeat.
2.7.23.110
tadā prabhṛti loke'smiṃstṛtīyā cā'kṣayā''hvayā ..
From that time forward in this world, the third day called Akṣayā
2.7.23.111
prakhyātā sarvalokeṣu devarṣipitṛtuṣṭidā ..54..
became celebrated across all worlds, granting satisfaction to gods, seers, and ancestors.
2.7.23.112
tasmātpuṇyatamā caiṣā sarvakarmanikṛṃtanī ..
Therefore, this [day] is most sacred, cutting away all [past] karma,
2.7.23.113
bhuktimuktipradā nṛṇāṃ tṛtīyā cā'kṣayā''hvayā .. 55 ..
granting enjoyment and liberation to men—the third day called Akṣayā.
2.7.23.114
iti śrīskāṃde mahāpurāṇa ekāśītisāhasryāṃ saṃhitāyāṃ dvitīye vaiṣṇavakhaṇḍe vaiśākhamāsamāhātmye nāradāmbarīṣasaṃvāde'kṣayyatṛtīyāyāḥ śreṣṭhatvakathanaṃ nāma trayoviṃśo'dhyāyaḥ ..23..
