delighting the sage, the younger brother of the pot-born one, with his words.

Īśvara said:
3.1.13.66
kuṃbhajānuja vakṣyāmi muktyupāyaṃ tavānagha ..
O younger brother of the pot-born one, O sinless one, I shall tell you the means to liberation.
3.1.13.67
setumadhye mahātīrthaṃ gaṃdhamādanaparvate .. 31 ..
In the midst of the Causeway, on Mount Gandhamādana, there is a great sacred ford.
3.1.13.68
maṃgalākhyasya tīrthasya nātidūreṇa vartate ..
It lies not far from the sacred ford named Maṅgala.
3.1.13.69
tatra gatvā kuru snānaṃ tato muktimavāpsyasi ..32..
Going there, perform ritual ablution; then you shall attain liberation.
3.1.13.70
tattīrthasevanānnānyomokṣo pāyo laghustava ..
Other than resorting to that sacred ford, there is no easy means of liberation for you.
3.1.13.71
na hi tattīrthavaiśiṣṭyaṃ vaktuṃ śakyaṃ mayāpi ca .. 33 ..
Indeed, the excellence of that sacred ford cannot be fully told even by me.
3.1.13.72
saṃdeho nātra kartavyastvayādya munisattama..
No doubt should be entertained here by you today, O best of sages.
3.1.13.73
tasmāttatraiva gaccha tvaṃ yadīcchasi bhavakṣayam .. 34 ..
Therefore, go to that very place if you desire the cessation of worldly existence.
3.1.13.74
ityuktvā bhagavānīśastatraivāṃtaradhīyata ..
Having spoken thus, the divine Īśa vanished right there.
3.1.13.75
tato devasya vacanādagastyasya sahodaraḥ .. 35 ..
Then, according to the god's command, the brother of Agastya,
3.1.13.76
gatvā setuṃ samudre tu gaṃdhamādanaparvate..
having gone to the Causeway in the ocean, upon Mount Gandhamādana,
3.1.13.77
īśvaraṇaiva gaditaṃ tīrthaṃ tacchīghramāsadat .. 36 ..
quickly reached that sacred ford described by Īśvara.
3.1.13.78
tatra tīrthe mahāpuṇye snātānāṃ muktidāyini ..
At that exceedingly meritorious sacred ford, which grants liberation to those who bathe,
3.1.13.79
ekāṃtarāmanāthākhye kṣetrālaṃkaraṇe śubhe .. 37 ..
named Ekāntarāmanātha, an auspicious ornament of the sacred field,
3.1.13.80
sasnau niyamapūrvaṃ sa trīṇi varṣāṇi vai dvijaḥ ..
that twice-born one bathed according to rule for three years.
3.1.13.81
tataścaturthavarṣe tu samādhistho mahāmuniḥ .. 38 ..
Then, in the fourth year, that great sage, absorbed in samādhi,
3.1.13.82
brahmanāḍyā prāṇavāyuṃ mūrddhanyāropyayogataḥ ..
having raised his vital breath into the crown of his head through the channel of Brahman by yoga,
3.1.13.83
prāṇānnirgamayāmāsa brahmaraṃdhreṇa tatra saḥ .. 39 ..
released his vital breaths right there through the aperture of Brahman.
3.1.13.84
tato'gastyānujaḥ soyaṃ parityajya kalevaram ..
Then that younger brother of Agastya, having abandoned his bodily frame,
3.1.13.85
avāpa muktiṃ paramāṃ tasya tīrthasya vaibhavāt ..3.1.13.4...
he attained supreme liberation through the power of that sacred ford.
3.1.13.86
vinaṣṭāśeṣaduḥkhasya tattīrthasnānavaibhavāt ..
Since, for him whose sorrows were entirely destroyed through the power of ritual ablution in that sacred ford,
3.1.13.87
mṛtatvamabhūdyasmādagastyānujajanmanaḥ..41..
deathlessness occurred for Agastya's younger brother,
3.1.13.88
tato hyamṛtavāpītiprathā'syāsīnmunīśvarāḥ..
therefore, O lords of sages, it became renowned as Amṛtavāpī.
3.1.13.89
atra tīrthe narā ye tu varṣatrayamataṃdritāḥ..42..
Those men who, unwearied, in this sacred ford for three years
3.1.13.90
snānaṃ kurvaṃti te satyamamṛtatvaṃ prayāṃti hi ..
perform ritual ablution, truly attain immortality.
3.1.13.91
evaṃ tvamṛtavāpīti prathā tadvaibhavaṃ tathā ..
Thus the renown [of the place] as Amṛtavāpī and its power
3.1.13.92
yuṣmākaṃ kathitaṃ viprāḥ kiṃbhūyaḥ śrotumicchatha .. 43 ..
have been related to you, O brahmins. What further do you wish to hear?
3.1.13.93
.. ṛṣaya ūcuḥ .. ..
The seers said:
3.1.13.94
ekāṃtarāmanāthākhyā tasya kṣetrasya vai mune .. 44 ..
How did the name Ekāntarāmanātha come to that sacred field,
3.1.13.95
kathaṃ samāgatā sūta vaktumetattvamarhasi ..
O Sūta? You ought to tell this, O sage.
3.1.13.96
asmākaṃ muniśārdūla tacchuśrūṣātibhūyasī .. 45 ..
O tiger among sages, our desire to hear that is very great.
3.1.13.97
.. śrīsūta uvāca .. ..
The venerable Sūta said:
3.1.13.98
purā dāśarathī rāmaḥ sasugrīvabhibhīṣaṇaḥ ..
Formerly, Rāma, son of Daśaratha, along with Sugrīva and Vibhīṣaṇa,
3.1.13.99
lakṣmaṇena yuto bhrātrā maṃtrajñena hanūmatā .. 46 ..
accompanied by his brother Lakṣmaṇa and by Hanūmat who knows counsel,
3.1.13.100
vānarairbadhyamāne tu setāvaṃbudhimadhyataḥ ..
while the bridge was being built in the midst of the ocean by the monkeys,
3.1.13.101
ciṃtayanmanasā sītāmekāṃte samamaṃtrayat .. 47 ..
thinking of Sītā in his mind, deliberated in secret.
3.1.13.102
teṣu maṃtra yamāṇeṣu rāvaṇādivadhaṃ prati ..
While they were taking counsel concerning the slaying of Rāvaṇa and the others,
3.1.13.103
ullolatarakallolo jughoṣa jaladhirbhṛśam .. 48 ..
the ocean roared intensely, its billowing waves tossing high.
3.1.13.104
arṇavasya mahābhīme jṛṃbhamāṇe mahādhvanau ..
While the terrible, mighty roar of the ocean was resounding,
3.1.13.105
anyonyakathitāṃ vārtāṃ nāśṛṇvaṃste parasparam .. 49 ..
they could not hear what was spoken to one another.
3.1.13.106
tataḥ kiṃcidiva kruddho bhṛkuṭīkuṭilekṣaṇaḥ ..
Then, becoming somewhat enraged, with a glance curved in a frown,
3.1.13.107
bhrūbhaṃgalīlayā rāmo niyamya jaladhiṃ tadā .. .. 3.1.13.50 ..
Rāma, having restrained the ocean with playful knit of his brow,
3.1.13.108
nyamaṃtrayata vipreṃdrā rākṣasānāṃ vadhaṃ prati ..
took counsel, O best of brahmins, concerning the destruction of the rākṣasas.
3.1.13.109
ekāṃte'maṃtrayattatra taiḥ sārdhaṃ rāghavo yataḥ .. 51 ..
Because Rāghava deliberated there in secret with them,
3.1.13.110
ekāṃtarāmanāthākhyaṃ tatkṣetramabhavadvijāḥ ..
that sacred field came to be called Ekāntarāmanātha, O brahmins.
3.1.13.111
soyaṃ niyamito vārdhī rāmabhrūbhaṃgalīlayā .. 52 ..
This very ocean, restrained by the playful knit of Rāma's brow,
3.1.13.112
adyāpi niścalajalastatpradeśeṣu dṛśyate ..
even today is seen with motionless water in those regions.
3.1.13.113
ekāṃtarāmanāthākhyaṃ tadetatkṣetramuttamam .. 53 ..
This is that excellent sacred field named Ekāntarāmanātha.
3.1.13.114
āgatyāmṛtavāpyāṃ ca snātvā niyamapūrvakam ..
Having arrived and having bathed in Amṛtavāpī according to the rule,
3.1.13.115
rāmādīnapi sevaṃte te sarve muktimāpnuyuḥ .. 54 ..
those who venerate Rāma and the others will all attain liberation.
3.1.13.116
advaitavijñānavivekaśūnyā viraktihīnāśca samādhi hīnāḥ ..
Though destitute of non-dual knowledge and discernment, lacking detachment and devoid of deep meditation,
3.1.13.117
yāgādyanuṣṭhānavivarjitāśca snātvātra yāsyaṃtyamṛtaṃ dvijeṃdrāḥ .. 55 ..
and abandoned of rituals such as Vedic sacrifices, having bathed here they will attain immortality, O best of brahmins.
3.1.13.118
iti śrīskāṃde mahāpurāṇa ekāśītisāhasryāṃ saṃhitāyāṃ tṛtīye brahmakhaṇḍe setumāhātmye amṛtavāpīpraśaṃsāyām agastyabhrātṛvimuktivarṇanaṃnāma trayodaśo'dhyāyaḥ .. 13 ..
Thus ends the thirteenth chapter, named 'The Description of the Liberation of Agastya's Brother in Praise of Amṛtavāpī', in the Setumāhātmya of the third Brahmakhaṇḍa in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa of eighty-one thousand verses.
