whose face resembled the full moon, spoke with a smile, O brahmins:

3.1.47.56
kṣaṇaṃ dhyātvā muniḥ prāha viśravāḥ sa tu kaikasīm ..27..
Having meditated for a moment, the sage Viśravas spoke to Kaikasī:
3.1.47.57
mayā te viditaṃ subhrūrmanogatamabhīpsitam..
‘The desire within your mind is known by me, O fair-browed one.
3.1.47.58

Desiring sons, as such you have approached me just now, O auspicious one.
3.1.47.59

Since you have approached me at the fierce evening time
3.1.47.60
putrābhilāṣiṇī bhūtvā tasmāttvāṃ prabravīmyaham..29..
with a desire for sons, therefore I tell you:

Hearing those words of his, Kaikasī prostrated before him,
3.1.47.65
pulastyatanayaṃ prāha kṛtāṃjalipuṭā dvijāḥ ..
and with folded hands spoke to that son of Pulastya, O brahmins:
3.1.47.66
bhagavadīdṛśāḥ putrāstvattaḥ prāptuṃ na yujyate .. 32 ..
‘O lord, it is not fitting to receive such sons from you!’
3.1.47.67
ityuktaḥ sa muniḥ prāha kaikasīṃ tāṃ sumadhyamām ..
Addressed thus, the sage spoke to that slender-waisted Kaikasī:
3.1.47.68
madvaṃśānuguṇaḥ putraḥ paścimaste bhaviṣyati .. 33 ..
‘Your last son shall be worthy of my lineage:
