4.15.85
tatastvakāṃḍa brahmāṃḍa bhaṃgādbhītobhavadvidhiḥ ..39..

4.15.86
nivārya rudraṃ samarātsaṃvartānalavarcasam ..
Restraining Rudra, who blazed with the splendour of the fire of cosmic dissolution, from battle,
4.15.87
dadāvāṃgirase tārāṃ svayameva pitāmahaḥ ..4.1.15.40..
the grandfather [Brahmā] himself gave Tārā back to [Bṛhaspati,] the descendant of Aṅgiras. // 4.1.15.40
4.15.88
athāṃtargarbhamālokya tārāṃ prāha bṛhaspatiḥ ..
Then, seeing an embryo inside her, Bṛhaspati said to Tārā:
4.15.89
madīyāyāṃ na te yonau garbho dhāryaḥ kathaṃcana ..41..
“In no way must an embryo be borne by you in my place of conception.” // 41

iṣīkāstaṃbamāsādya garbhaṃ sā cotsasarja ha ..
She went to a clump of reeds and cast out the embryo.
4.15.91
jātamātraḥ sa bhagavāndevānāmākṣipadvapuḥ .. 42 ..
As soon as he was born, the lordly child eclipsed the splendour of the gods. // 42
4.15.92
tataḥ saṃśayamāpannāstārāmūcuḥ surottamāḥ ..
Then, falling into doubt, the foremost gods said to Tārā:
4.15.93
satyaṃ būhi sutaḥ kasya somasyātha bṛhaspateḥ .. 43 ..
“Tell the truth: whose son is he—Soma’s or Bṛhaspati’s?” // 43
4.15.94
pṛcchamānā yadā devai rnāha tārā'tisatrapā ..
When, being questioned by the gods, Tārā did not speak because of great shame,
4.15.95
tadā sā śaptumārabdhā kumāreṇātitejasā .. 44 ..
the boy of supreme brilliance began to curse her. // 44
4.15.96
taṃ nivārya tadā brahmā tārāṃ papraccha saṃśayam..
Then Brahmā, restraining him, questioned Tārā to clear the doubt.
4.15.97
provāca prāṃjaliḥ sā taṃ somasyeti pitāmaham .. 45 ..
With folded hands she said to the grandfather [Brahmā], “Soma's.” // 45
4.15.98
tadā sa mūrdhnyupāghrāya rājā garbhaṃ prajāpatiḥ ..
Then the king, the lord of creatures [Soma], smelling the child on the crown of his head,
4.15.99
budha ityakaronnāma tasya bālasya dhīmataḥ .. 46 ..
gave the wise boy the name Budha. // 46
4.15.100
tataśca sarvadevebhyastejorūpabalādhikaḥ ..
Then, surpassing all the gods in fiery energy, beauty, and strength,
4.15.101
budhaḥ somaṃ samāpṛcchaya tapase kṛtaniścayaḥ ..47..
Budha, having taken leave of Soma and determined upon austerity,
4.15.102
jagāma kāśīṃ nirvāṇarāśiṃ viśveśapālitām ..
went to Kāśī, the heap of liberation protected by the Lord of the Universe.
4.15.103

the boy practiced exceedingly fierce austerity, contemplating in his heart
4.15.105
varṣāṇāmayutaṃ bālo bāleṃdutilakaṃ śivam .. 49 ..
the fierce Śiva, who is adorned with the young crescent moon, for ten thousand years. // 49
4.15.106
tato viśvapatiḥ śrīmānviśveśo viśvabhāvanaḥ ..
Then the glorious Lord of the Universe, the ruler and creator of the universe,
4.15.107
budheśvarānmahāliṃgādāvirāsīnmahodayaḥ .. 4.1.15.50 ..
arose with great magnificence from the great liṅga, Budheśvara. // 4.1.15.50
4.15.108
uvāca ca prasannātmā jyotīrūpo maheśvaraḥ ..
And Maheśvara, whose form is light, with a gracious mind,
4.15.109
varaṃ brūhi mahābuddhe budhānya vibudhottamaḥ .. 51 ..
said: “Choose a boon, O one of great intellect! You are the foremost of the wise! // 51
4.15.110
tavānenāti tapasā liṃgasaṃśīlanena ca ..
By this exceedingly great austerity of yours and by your constant devotion to the liṅga,
4.15.111
prasannosmi mahāsaumya nādeyaṃ tvayi vidyate .. 52 ..
I am pleased, O greatly gentle one; there is nothing that cannot be given to you.” // 52
4.15.112
iti śrutvā vacaḥ sotha meghagaṃbhīra niḥsvanam..
Hearing this speech, which resounded deep like a cloud
4.15.113
avagrahaparimlāna sasyasaṃjīvanopamam.. 53 ..
and was like the reviving of crops withered by drought,
4.15.114
unmīlyalocane yāvatpuraḥ paśyati bālakaḥ ..
as the boy opened his eyes and looked forward,
4.15.115
tāvalliṃge dadarśātha tryaṃbakaṃ śaśiśekharam..54..
he then saw the three-eyed one, adorned with the crescent moon, in the liṅga. // 54

phaladātre ca tapasāṃ taporūpāya te namaḥ .. 57 ..
To the giver of the fruits of austerities, whose form is austerity itself, salutation! // 57
4.15.123
śaṃbho śivaśivākāṃta śāṃtaśrī kaṃṭhaśūlabhṛt ..
O Śambhu! O Śiva! O beloved of Śivā! O peaceful one! O Śrīkaṇṭha! O bearer of the trident!
4.15.124
śaśiśekharaśarveśa śaṃkareśvara dhūrjaṭe .. 58 ..
O moon-crested one! O Lord of Śarva! O Śaṃkara! O Īśvara! O Dhūrjaṭi! // 58

pinākapāṇe giriśa śitikaṃṭha sadāśiva ..
O bearer of the Pināka bow! O dweller on the mountain! O dark-throated one! O Sadāśiva!
4.15.126
mahādeva namastubhyaṃ devadeva namostu te .. 59 ..
O Mahādeva, praise to you! O God of Gods, praise be to you! // 59
4.15.127
stutikartuṃ na jānāmi stutipriya maheśvara ..
I do not know how to compose a hymn of praise, O Maheśvara who delight in praise.
4.15.128
tava pādāṃbujadvaṃdve nirdvaṃdvā bhaktirastu me .. 4.1.15.60 ..
May I have unhesitating devotion to your two lotus feet! // 4.1.15.60
4.15.129
ayameva varo nātha prasannosi yadīśvara ..
This alone is the boon, O Lord, if you are pleased, O Īśvara.
4.15.130
nānyaṃ varaṃ vṛṇe tvattaḥ karuṇāmṛtavāridhe .. 61 ..
I do not choose any other boon from you, O ocean of nectar of compassion!” // 61
4.15.131
tataḥ prāha maheśānastatstutyā paritoṣitaḥ ..
Then Maheśāna, delighted by that hymn of praise, said:
4.15.132
rauhiṇeya mahābhāga saumyasaumyavaconidhe .. 62 ..
“O son of Rohiṇī, O fortunate one, O gentle one, O treasure of gentle words! // 62
4.15.133
nakṣatralokādupari tava loko bhaviṣyati ..
Above the realm of the lunar mansions, your realm shall be located;
4.15.134
madhye sarvagrahāṇāṃ ca saparyāṃ lapsyase parām .. 63 ..
and among all the planets, you shall receive the highest worship. // 63

This liṅga installed by you will bestow wisdom on all,

durbuddhiharaṇaṃ saumya tvallokavasatipradam .. 64 ..
will remove folly, O gentle one, and will grant residence in your realm.” // 64
4.15.137
ityuktvā bhagavāñchaṃbhustatraivāṃtaradhīyata ..
Having spoken thus, the venerable Śambhu disappeared right there.
4.15.138
budhaḥ svarlokamagamaddevadevaprasādataḥ .. 65 ..
And Budha went to the heavenly realm through the grace of the God of Gods. // 65
4.15.139

The two gaṇas said:
4.15.140
kāśyāṃ budheśvarasamarcanalabdhabuddhiḥ saṃsārasiṃdhumadhigamya naro hyagādham ..
In Kāśī, having acquired wisdom through worship of Budheśvara, a man, on reaching the fathomless ocean of saṃsāra,
4.15.141
majjenna sajjanavilocana caṃdrakāṃtiḥ kāṃtānanastvadhivasecca budhe'tra loke .. 66 ..
would not drown; possessing the moonlike splendor that delights the eyes of good people, having a lovely face, he shall dwell here in the realm of Budha.
4.15.142
caṃdreśvarātpūrvabhāge dṛṣṭvā liṃgaṃ budheśvaram ..
Having seen the Budheśvara liṅga east of Candreśvara,
4.15.143
na buddhyā hīyate jaṃturaṃtakālepi jātucit ..67..
a creature is never bereft of intellect, even at the hour of death.
4.15.144
gaṇau yāvatkathāmitthaṃ cakrāte budhalokagām ..
While the two gaṇas were thus recounting the tale pertaining to the world of Budha,
4.15.145
tāvadvimānaṃ saṃprāptaṃ śukralokamanuttamam .. 68 .. ..
the aerial chariot arrived at the unexcelled realm of Śukra.
4.15.146
