Among the youths dwelling in the three worlds, Sāmba is exceedingly handsome,
4.48.31

From the natural disposition of fair-browed women and from the words of Nārada,
4.48.37
vijñātā''khilavṛttāṃtastathyaṃ kṛṣṇopyamanyata .. 18 ..
Kṛṣṇa, having learned the entire matter, also considered it to be true. (18)
4.48.38
tāvaddhairyaṃcalākṣīṇāṃ tāvaccetovivekitā ..
"The constancy of unsteady-eyed women lasts only so long, and the discernment of their minds lasts only so long,
4.48.39
yāvannārthī viviktastho vivikterthini nānyathā .. 19..
as a suitor does not stand in a secluded place, and they are not in private with a suitor; not otherwise." (19)

itthaṃ vivecayaṃścitte kṛṣṇaḥ krodhanadīrayam ..

vivekasetunā''stabhya nāradaṃ prāhiṇotsudhīḥ ..4.1.48.20..
of the river of anger with the dam of discernment, sent Nārada away. (20)
4.48.42
sāṃbasya vaikṛtaṃ kiṃcitkvacitkṛṣṇonavaikṣata..
Kṛṣṇa did not perceive any misconduct at all in Sāmba anywhere,
4.48.43
gate devamunau tasminvīkṣamāṇopyaharniśam ..21..
even though he watched day and night after that divine sage had departed. (21)
4.48.44
kiyatyapi gate kāle punarapyāyayau muniḥ ..
When some time had passed, the sage came once again,
4.48.45
madhye līlāvatīnāṃ ca jñātvā kṛṣṇamavasthitam .. 22 ..
and knowing that Kṛṣṇa was seated amidst his playful women, (22)
4.48.46
bahiḥ krīḍaṃtamāhūya sāṃbamityāha nāradaḥ ..
Nārada called Sāmba, who was playing outside, and said this to him:
4.48.47
yāhi kṛṣṇāṃtikaṃ tūrṇaṃ kathayāgamanaṃ mama ..23 ..
"Go quickly to Kṛṣṇa's presence and announce my arrival." (23)
4.48.48
sāṃbopi yāmi noyāmi kṣaṇamitthamaciṃtayat ..
Sāmba too thought for a moment in this way: "Shall I go or shall I not go?
4.48.49
kathaṃ rahaḥstha pitaraṃ yāmi straiṇasakhaṃprati .. 24 ..
How can I go to my father who is in a private apartment in the company of women? (24)
4.48.50
na yāmi ca kathaṃ vākyādasyāhaṃ brahmacāriṇaḥ ..
And how can I not go upon the command of this celibate,
4.48.51
jvaladaṃgārasaṃkāśa sphuratsarvāṃgatejasaḥ .. 25..
the splendor of all whose limbs flashes like blazing embers? (25)
4.48.52
praṇamatsukumāreṣu vrīḍitoyaṃ mayaikadā ..
Once, when the young princes were prostrating, he was put to shame by me.
4.48.53
idānīmapi no yāyāmasya vākyānmahāmuneḥ .. 26 ..
If even now I do not go on the command of this great sage, (26)
4.48.54
atyāhitaṃ tadastīha tadāgodvayadarśanāt ..
then a great disaster will occur here on account of the perception of two offenses.
4.48.55
pituḥ kopopi suślāghyo mayi no brāhmaṇasya tu .. 27..
Even my father's anger towards me is quite praiseworthy, but not that of a brahmin. (27)
4.48.56
brahmakopāgninirdagdhāḥ prarohaṃti na jātucit ..
Those burned by the fire of a brahmin's anger never sprout again,
4.48.57
aparāgnivinirdagdhāro haṃte dāvadagdhavat .. 28..
while those burned by other fires grow back like trees scorched by a forest fire." (28)
4.48.58
iti dhyātvā kṣaṇaṃ sāṃbo'viśadaṃtaḥpuraṃpituḥ ..
Having reflected thus for a moment, Sāmba entered his father's inner apartment.
4.48.59
madhye straiṇasabhaṃkṛṣṇaṃ yāvajjāṃbavatīsutaḥ .. 29 ..
Just as the son of Jāmbavatī [approached] Kṛṣṇa in the midst of the assembly of women,
4.48.60
dūrātpraṇamya vijñaptiṃ sa cakāra saśaṃkitaḥ ..
and bowing from afar, made his petition, full of apprehension,
4.48.61
tāvattamanvagacchacca nāradaḥ kāryasiddhaye .. 4.1.48.30 ..
at that moment Nārada followed after him to accomplish his own purpose.
4.48.62
sasaṃbhramotha kṛṣṇopi dṛṣṭvā sāṃbaṃ ca nāradam ..
Then Kṛṣṇa also, seeing Sāmba and Nārada with sudden fluster,
4.48.63
samuttasthau paridadhatpītakauśeyamaṃbaram .. 31 ..
stood up, putting on his yellow silk garment.
4.48.64
utthite devakīsūnau tāḥ sarvā api gopikāḥ ..
When the son of Devakī stood up, all those cowherd women too,
4.48.65
vilajjitāḥ samuttasdhurgṛhṇaṃtyaḥ svaṃsvamaṃbaram .. 32 ..
embarrassed, stood up, gathering their respective garments.
4.48.66
mahārhaśayanīye taṃ haste dhṛtvā mahāmunim ..
Taking that great sage by the hand, upon a costly couch
4.48.67
samupāveśayatkṛṣṇaḥ sāṃbaśca krīḍituṃ yayau .. 33 ..
Kṛṣṇa seated him; and Sāmba went away to play.
4.48.68
tāsāṃ skhalitamālokya tiṣṭhaṃtīnāṃ puro muniḥ ..
Seeing the slip of those women who stood before him,
4.48.69
kṛṣṇalīlādravībhūtavarāṃgānāṃ jagau harim .. 34 ..
whose best limbs were melted by Kṛṣṇa's erotic sports, the sage spoke to Hari:
4.48.70
paśyapaśya mahābuddhe dṛṣṭvā jāṃbavatīsutam ..
"Look, look, O highly intelligent one! Having seen the son of Jāmbavatī,
4.48.71
imāḥ skhalitamāpannāstadrūpakṣubdhacetasaḥ .. 35 ..
these women have fallen into a lapse, their minds agitated by his handsome form."
4.48.72
kṛṣṇopi sāṃbamāhūya sahasaivāśapatsutam ..
Then Kṛṣṇa, summoning Sāmba, instantly cursed his son,
4.48.73
sarvā jāṃbavatītulyāḥ paśyaṃtamapi durvidheḥ .. 36 ..
who, through misfortune, was looking [at them], though all were like Jāmbavatī to him:
4.48.74
yasmāttvadrūpamālokya gopālyaḥ skhalitā imāḥ ..
"Because having seen your beauty these cowherd women have lapsed,
4.48.75
tasmātkuṣṭhī bhava kṣipramakāṃḍāgamanena ca .. 37 ..
and because of your untimely arrival, therefore quickly become a leper!"
4.48.76
vepamāno mahāvyādhibhayātsāṃbopi dāruṇāt ..
Trembling with fear of that terrible, great affliction, Sāmba too
4.48.77
kṛṣṇaṃ prasādayāmāsa bahuśaḥ pāpaśāṃtaye.. 38 ..
appeased Kṛṣṇa repeatedly for the pacification of his sin.
4.48.78
kṛṣṇopyanena saṃjānansāṃbaṃ svasutamaurasam ..
Kṛṣṇa, recognizing Sāmba as his own legitimate son,
4.48.79
abravītkuṣṭhamokṣāya vraja vaiśveśvarīṃ purīm .. 39 ..
said to him: "For release from leprosy, go to the city of Viśveśvara.
4.48.80
tatra bradhnaṃ samārādhya prakṛtiṃ svāmavāpsyasi ..
Worshipping the Sun there, you will regain your natural state,
4.48.81
mahainasāṃ kṣayo yatra nāsti vārāṇasīṃ vinā .. 4.1.48.40 ..
since nowhere except in Vārāṇasī is there the destruction of great sins,
4.48.82
yatra viśveśvaraḥ sākṣādyatra svargāpagā ca sā ..
where Viśveśvara is visibly present, and where that river of heaven is.
4.48.83
yeṣāṃ mahainasāṃ dṛṣṭā munibhirnaiva niṣkṛtiḥ ..
For those great sins where no expiation has been seen by the sages,
4.48.84
teṣāṃ viśuddhirastyeva prāpya vārāṇasīṃ purīm .. 41 ..
the purification of them certainly exists upon reaching the city of Vārāṇasī.
4.48.85
na kevalaṃ hi pāpebhyo vārāṇasyāṃ vimucyate ..
For in Vārāṇasī one is freed not only from [ordinary] sins;
4.48.86
prākṛtebhyopi pāpebhyo mucyate śaṃkarājñayā .. 42 ..
by Śaṃkara's command, one is freed even from natural sins.
4.48.87
purā purāriṇā sṛṣṭamavimuktaṃ vimuktaye ..
Anciently, Avimukta was created by the Enemy of Pura for the liberation
4.48.88
sarveṣāmeva jaṃtūnāṃ kṛpayāṃte tanutyajām .. 43 ..
of all living beings who abandon their bodies at the end, out of compassion.
4.48.89
tatrānaṃdavane śaṃbhostavaśāpa nirākṛtiḥ ..
There, in Śambhu's Ānandavana, is the removal of your curse.
4.48.90
sāṃba tattveritaṃ yāhi nānyathā śāpanirvṛtiḥ .. 44 ..
Therefore, Sāmba, go quickly; in no other way is there relief from the curse."
4.48.91
tataḥ kṛṣṇaṃ samāpṛcchya karmanirmuktaceṣṭitaḥ ..
Then, taking leave of Kṛṣṇa, with his actions freed from karma,
