5.138.27
ete te vyādhayaḥ sarve mayā yama niyojitāḥ ..
sāhāyyaṃ ca kariṣyaṃti sarvakṛ tyeṣu sarvadā ..27..

yamalokaṃ samāsādya tataḥ provāca sādaram .. 31 ..
Then, taking all those diseases, the son of the sun / reached Yamaloka and then respectfully said:
5.138.32
pṛṣṭvāpṛṣṭvā ca gaṃtavyaṃ citraguptaṃ dharātale ..
gaṃtavyaṃ jananāśāya samaye samupasthite .. 32 ..
"After repeatedly consulting Citragupta, you must go to the surface of the earth; / you must go for the destruction of people when the appointed time has arrived.
5.138.33
paramasti mayā tatra sthāpitaṃ liṃgamuttamam .
hāṭakeśvarajekṣetre sarvapātakanāśanam ..33..
However, there is an excellent liṅga installed by me / in the sacred field of Hāṭakeśvara, which destroys all sins.
5.138.34
yastaṃ paśyati sadbhaktyā prātarutthāya mānavaḥ ..
sa yuṣmābhiḥ sadā tyājyo dūrato vacanānmama .. 34 ..
Whatever man, having risen in the morning, beholds it with true devotion, / he must always be avoided by you from afar, by my word."

putraputreti jalpansa nijabhāryāsamanvitaḥ .. 37 ..
hastened forward with a delighted heart, / crying out, "Son! Son!" together with his wife.
5.138.38
pariṣvajya tato bhūyo vāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇaḥ ..
āghrāya ca tato mūrdhni vākyametaduvāca ha .. 38 ..
Then, repeatedly embracing him, his eyes filled with tears, / and having smelled his head, he spoke these words:
5.138.39
.. brāhmaṇa uvāca .. ..
kathaṃ putra samāyātastvaṃ tasmā dyamamaṃdirāt ..
na kaścitpunarāyāti yatra gatvā'pi vīryavān .. 39 ..
The brahmin said: / "How, O son, have you returned from that abode of Yama, / from where no one, even a powerful man, ever returns?

kiṃ vā caitatsamutpannamindrajālaṃ mamāṃtikam ..
kiṃ vā svapnamidaṃ kiṃ vā mamāyaṃ dṛṣṭivibhramaḥ ..6.139.4...
Or has this illusion arisen before me? / Or is this a dream, or an aberration of my vision?
5.138.41
kaścāyaṃ brāhmaṇaḥ pārśve tava saṃtiṣṭhate suta ..
divyena tejasā yuktastaṃ namāmyahamātmaja .. 41 ..
And who is this brahmin standing at your side, my son, / endowed with divine splendor? I bow to him, O child."
5.138.42
.. putra uvāca .. ..
eṣa brāhmaṇarūpeṇa samāyāto yamaḥ svayam ..
māmādāya kṛpāviṣṭo jñātvā tvāṃ duḥkhasaṃyutam .. 42 ..
The son said: / "This is Yama himself, who has come in the form of a brahmin; / filled with compassion, he has brought me, knowing you were stricken with grief.
5.138.43
tasmāttvaṃ kuru tātāsya śāpānugrahamadya vai..
gṛhaprāptasya susnehādyadyahaṃ tava vallabhaḥ .. 43 ..
Therefore, O father, grant him today the mitigation of your curse / with great affection, as he has reached your home, if I am dear to you."
5.138.44
tatastasya praṇāmaṃ sa kṛtvā brāhmaṇasattamaḥ ..
vrīḍayā'dhomukho bhūtvā tataḥ provāca sādaram .. 44 .. ..
Then that best of brahmins, having bowed down to him, / lowered his head with shame and then spoke respectfully:
5.138.45
.. brāhmaṇa uvāca .. ..
adya me saphalaṃ janma jīvitaṃ ca sujīvitam ..
yatputrasya mama prāptirgatasya yamasādanam . 45 ..
The brahmin said: / "Today my birth is fruitful, and my life is well-lived, / since my son, who had gone to the abode of Yama, has been restored.
5.138.46
tvaṃ ca putrakṛte tāta santoṣaṃ paramaṃ gataḥ ..
tasmātputreṇa saṃyukto yathāyaṃ syāttathā kuru .. 46 ..
And you, O father, have attained the highest satisfaction on account of my son; / therefore, act in such a way that he may remain united with his son."
5.138.47
.. brāhmaṇa uvāca .. ..
na me syādanṛtaṃ vākyaṃ kadā cidapi putraka ..
api svaireṇa yatproktaṃ kiṃ punarduḥkhitena ca .. 47 ..
The brahmin said: / "My word can never be false, O dear son, / even when spoken at random, much less when spoken in grief.
5.138.48
tasmāttasya bhavetputro daivayonisamudbhavaḥ ..
na kathaṃcidapi prājña mama śāpavaśāddhruvam.. 48 ..
Therefore, a son born of a divine womb can by no means / be born to him, O wise one, firmly due to the power of my curse.
5.138.49
bhaviṣyati sutaścānyo mānuṣīyonisaṃbhavaḥ ..
rājasūyāśvamedhābhyāṃ yaścainaṃ tārayiṣyati .. 49 ..
However, another son born of a human womb will come to be, / who will deliver him by means of the Rājasūya and the Aśvamedha.
5.138.50
ko'rthaḥ putreṇa jātena yo na saṃtāraṇakṣamaḥ ..
pitṛpakṣaṃ śubhaṃ karma kṛtvā sarvottamaṃ bhuvi .. 6.139.50 ..
What is the use of a son being born who is incapable of delivering / his paternal ancestors by performing auspicious actions, the best of all on earth?
5.138.51
tathā pūjākṛte yo'sya śāpo dattaśca vai purā ..
tatrāpi śṛṇu me vākyaṃ tasya putraka jalpataḥ ..51..
Moreover, regarding the curse that was previously given concerning his worship, / hear also my statement, O son, as he speaks:
5.138.52
vedoktairvividhairmantrairyā pūjā cāsya saṃsthitā ..
na bhaviṣyati sā loke kathaṃcidapi putraka .. 52 ..
That worship of his which was established with various mantras spoken in the Vedas / shall not take place in the world in any manner, O son.
5.138.53
asya mānuṣasaṃbhūtairmantraiḥ pūjā bhaviṣyati ..
viśiṣṭā sarvadevebhyaḥ satyametanmayoditam .. 53 ..
His worship shall take place with mantras of human origin, / superior to all the gods; this truth has been declared by me."
5.138.54
.. putra uvāca .. ..
ahamenaṃ pratiṣṭhāpya drijaśreṣṭha mahītale ..
samyagārādhayiṣyāmi kimanyairvibudhairmama .. 54 ..
The son said: / "Having established him on the surface of the earth, O best of the twice-born, / I shall worship him properly; what need do I have of other gods?
5.138.55
tasmātsaṃkīrtayiṣyāmi maṃtrānmānuṣasaṃbhavān ..
tathā pūjāvidhānaṃ ca tvatprasādena pūrvaja .. 55 ..
Therefore, I will recite mantras originating from humans, / as well as the procedure of worship, by your favor, O ancestor."
5.138.56
tataḥ sugaṃ naḥ pantheti tasya maṃtraṃ vidhāya saḥ ..
samācaratprahṛṣṭātmā dharmarājasya śṛṇvataḥ .. 56 ..

5.138.97
tacchrutvātha yamaḥ proccaiḥ suprasannena cetasā ..
taṃ brāhmaṇa muvācedaṃ harṣagadgadayāgirā .. 97 ..
Hearing that, Yama, highly pleased in his heart, / spoke thus to that brahmin in a voice choked with joy:
5.138.97_3
.. yama uvāca .. ..
kathaṃcidapi vipredra na me syāddarśanaṃ vṛthā ..
anyeṣāmapi devānāṃ tasmātprārthaya vāṃchi tam .. 58 ..
Yama said: / "By no means, O prince of brahmins, should the sight of me, / or of the other gods, be in vain; therefore, request what you desire."
5.138.97_4
.. brāhmaṇa uvāca .. ..
tavārcāṃ mama putro'yaṃ sthāpayiṣyati yāmiha ..

for the duration of a year, when the fifth day arrives, / may he suffer no grief for a son whatsoever in this world.
5.138.97_6
.. sūta uvāca .. ..
sa tatheti pratijñāya saṃprahṛṣṭamanā yamaḥ ..

5.138.97_7
so'pi brāhmaṇadāyādaḥ kṛtvā prāsādamuttamam ..
yamamārādhayāmāsa madhye saṃsthāpya bhaktitaḥ ..
pitrā coktena mantreṇa tenaiva vidhipūrvakam.. 62 ..
That son of the brahmin also, having built an excellent temple, / worshipped Yama, having installed [him] in the middle with devotion, / by means of that very mantra spoken by his father, according to ritual rules.
5.138.97_8
tataśca kramaśaḥ prāpya putrapautrānanekaśaḥ ..
kāladharmamanuprāptaściraṃ sthitvā mahītale .. 63 ..
