[reciting] 'imaṃ me gaṅge yamune,' the 'pañca nadyaḥ,' the 'tripuṣkaram,'

puraḥ sthitoṃjaliṃ baddhvā maṃtrānetānudāharet..22..
Having performed all this for her, the patron, dressed in white garments,
standing before her with joined palms, should utter these mantras:
5.267.23
tvayā saṃdhāryate viśvaṃ jagadetaccarācaram..
tava dānaṃ kariṣyāmi sāṃnidhyaṃ kuru medini..23..
'By you the universe is upheld, this entire moving and unmoving world.
I shall make a gift of you; grant your presence, O Earth!
5.267.24
śarīreṣvapi bhūtānāṃ tvaṃ devi prathamaṃ sthitā..
tataścānyāni bhūtāni jalādīni vasundhare..24..
Even in the bodies of living beings, O goddess, you exist first;
and then the other elements, beginning with water, O Earth!

fixing Vāsudeva in one's heart, one should dedicate it with this mantra:

pātālāduddhṛtā yena pṛthvī sā lokakāriṇā..
asyā dānena ca sadā prīyatāṃ me janārdanaḥ..27..

by the gift of this [earth], may Janārdana always be pleased with me!'
5.267.28
evamuccārya tattoyaṃ toyamadhye parikṣipet..
na bhūmau naiva haste ca brāhmaṇasya nṛpottama..28..
Having spoken thus, one should cast that water into the midst of water,
not on the ground, nor into the hand of the brahmin, O best of kings.
5.267.29
tato visarjayeddevīṃ mantreṇānena bhāgaśaḥ..
āgatā ca yathānyāyaṃ pūjitā ca yathāvidhi..29..

The king who hears it will become a giver [of land] birth after birth.
5.267.32
yo rājā pṛthivīṃ dadyādvidhinānena pārthiva..
rājyabhraṃśo na vaṃśe'pi tasya saṃjāyate kvacit..32..
Whatever king gives the earth according to this rite, O ruler of the earth,
fall from kingship never occurs, even in his lineage.
5.267.33
rājyabhraṃśasamopetā ye dṛśyaṃte mahībhujaḥ..
na tairvasundharā dattā brāhmaṇānāṃ dhṛtātmanām..33..
Those rulers of the earth who are seen to suffer the loss of their kingdom—
by them the earth was not given to self-controlled brahmins.
5.267.34
tasmātsarvaprayatnena pṛthvīdānaṃ samācaret..
na haretparadattāṃ ca kathaṃcidapi medinīm..34..

śṛṇvatāmapi rājeṃdra taddehādyaghanāśanam..35..

āstāṃ tāvatpradānaṃ ca pṛthivyāḥ pṛthivīpateḥ..
dātuḥ saṃpreraṇaṃ yasyā ajñānaughavināśanam..36..
Let alone the gift of the earth by a ruler of the earth:
even instigating the donor of it destroys the flood of ignorance.
5.267.37
rūpavānsubhagaścaiva tathā ca priyadarśanaḥ..
ādhivyādhivinirmuktaḥ putrapautrasamanvitaḥ..37..
Handsome, fortunate, and pleasing in appearance,
freed from mental anguish and physical disease, accompanied by sons and grandsons,
5.267.38
medhāvī jāyate martyo dānasyāsya prabhāvataḥ..
itthaṃbhūtā mahārāja kṛtvā rājyamakaṇṭakam..38..
intelligent does a mortal become by the power of this gift.
Having become like this, O great king, and having ruled an unthreatened kingdom,
5.267.39
prītā viṣṇoḥ padaṃ yāṃti śāśvataṃ yannirāmayam..
anyatrāpi dharādānātprakuryāccakravartitām..39..
they go, satisfied, to the eternal, painless abode of Viṣṇu.
From the gift of the earth even elsewhere, one would attain universal emperorship

ekajanmāṃtaraṃ yāvatsamyagdattaṃ nṛpottamaḥ..
gautameśvaradevasya yatpurā purataḥ kṛtam..6.268.40..
for the duration of a single subsequent birth, when properly given, O best of kings.
That which was formerly made in the presence of the god Gautameśvara
5.267.41
saptajanmāṃtaraṃ yāvatprakaroti na saṃśayaḥ..
tasmātsarvaprayatnena tatra deyā mahī nṛpa..41..
makes [one an emperor] for seven successive births, without a doubt.
Therefore, with every effort, the earth is to be given there, O king.
5.267.268
iti śrīskāṃde mahāpurāṇa ekāśītisāhasryāṃ saṃhitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭhe nāgarakhaṇḍe hāṭakeśvarakṣetramāhātmye gautameśvaramāhātmye pṛthvīdānamāhātmyavarṇanaṃnāmāṣṭaṣaṣṭyuttaradviśatatamo'dhyāyaḥ..268..
Thus ends the two hundred and sixty-eighth chapter, entitled 'Description of the Glory of the Gift of the Earth' in the Gautameśvara-māhātmya within the Hāṭakeśvarakṣetra-māhātmya, in the sixth Nāgarakhaṇḍa of the glorious Skandamahāpurāṇa consisting of eighty-one thousand verses.
