> Then Śambhu was praised by the ocean to avert that,
> for the welfare of the gods and to prevent the drying up of the ocean.
> He arrested that matchless arrow released by the son of Jamadagni;
> checked, having traversed only twelve yojanas, it fell down.
> And as if laughing, the ocean ceded that much land,
> and the son of Jamadagni of great splendor dwelt there accordingly.
> The son of Bhṛgu, equal to the king of the gods, his soul rejoiced, made that region,
> which was frequented by herds of deer and flocks of birds,
> and resounded with the terrible roars of lions, mighty elephants, śarabhas, and bears, as prosperous as the city of the gods.
> Thus ends the one hundred and twenty-third chapter in the Rāmamāhātmya of the Skandapurāṇa.
> Sanatkumāra said:
> When the earth was thus given by the son of Jamadagni to the great-souled one,
> she then sank downwards as if from the collapse of a mountain peak.
> The sage angrily said to her: “Stay, stay, O bearer of wealth!
> Why, having abandoned me, are you sinking downwards, O auspicious one?”
> The earth said:
> “Without Rāma, the son of Jamadagni, my dear husband of boundless splendor,
> I cannot stay, O sage, my heart being captivated by his virtues.
> If you do not grant me today to Rāma, O bull among sages,
> I shall go down, O lord; I will not remain otherwise.”
> Sanatkumāra said:
> Hearing those words of hers, Kaśyapa, best of ascetics,
> spoke angrily to the earth, as if burning \[her\] with his splendor:
