> Sanatkumāra said: / Hereafter I shall declare the mighty battle of the standard / of the gods and the asuras, which destroyed \[their\] vital breaths. (1) / There was a glorious, immensely powerful son of Danu named Vipracitti; / self-disciplined, he performed austerity at \[the place called\] Bhastrāpada, so it is heard. (2) / Having propitiated the lord of the gods, the blessed three-eyed one, / he chose the boon of immortality, and the guardian of the gods granted it to him. (3) / \[He gave him\] a divine, celestial standard, made of illusion, going everywhere, auspicious and golden. / And the blessed one, delighted in mind, said to the lord of the Dānavas: (4) / 'O son of Danu, this supreme all-formed standard belongs to you; / relying on it, you shall be invincible in battles, (5) / and immortal, O mighty-armed one, provided you do not utter a sound; / otherwise, your victory in battle will depend on your fortunes.' (6) / Addressed thus by the god, with that great standard in battle, / together with the Danavas, O best of brahmins, he challenged all the gods. (7)
