> meditating upon the two great-souled Prajāpatis, Viṣṇu and Pitāmaha \[Brahmā\],
> and having bowed down to that Mahādeva, the three-eyed boon-granting Īśvara,
> I shall declare his doctrine, the certainty of the conclusion of yoga.
> Know this definition of yoga as it is being spoken by me,
> by the practice of which, O great sage, the bonds of the bound souls are severed.
> When the mind is firmly established in the Self, the external cessation of conceptual thought occurs,
> and there is the unification of the soul with the supreme Īśvara.
