> Then, in order to seek the supreme reality—the unborn, auspicious Śiva beyond the qualities— / he approached as a disciple the sage Āsuri, the direct disciple of the blessed Kapila,
> and obtained from him the wisdom of liberation. / Realizing the supreme principle beyond primal matters and modifications,
> and the conscious soul, the knower of the field, the experiencer who is detached from experiencing, / knowing the ultimate goal of the wisdom of liberation and mastering the doctrines of Sāṃkhya,
> he became a perfected sage, best of munis, named Pañcaśikha. / Attaining supreme yoga, that great sage, a master of Sāṃkhya, / freed from the threefold suffering, attained the imperishable abode.
> Thus the glorious, great-souled king of the Daityas, an enemy of the three worlds, / after long hostility with Viṣṇu, the preceptor of the gods, / subsequently became a perfected being, granter of fearlessness to the universe, and attained yoga; / freed at last, he reached the immortal state, the primordial Brahman.
> Knowing the soul, detached from the gunas, freed from sorrows and the bondages of worldly existence, / liberated from the obstruction of darkness and delusion, that lord of the Daityas became a master of yoga.
> In this manner Purandara cut the wings of all those mountains, / O best of sages, as you had previously asked me."
> Thus ends the one hundred and seventy-second chapter, entitled "The Severing of the Mountains' Wings" in the story of Prahrāda, in the Skandapurāṇa.
