> having swords, bells, and banners like two elephants, / both heroes of great valor, stood ready to fight the Daityas. / And Soma, with ten sharp arrows piercing vital spots, / struck the Daitya Hiraṇyākṣa, the great asura, in the chest. / Struck in the heart by Soma, that haughty Daitya / fell into a stupor, O Vyāsa, like Mount Krauñca by the spear. / Seeing him in that state, the charioteer carried away the chariot / with the great magical asura, as treasures carry off the lord of wealth. / Then a cry of grief arose from the Daityas, and cries of “Well done, well done!” from the gods; / “Seize him! Seize him!” from the Daityas, and “Do not take him!” from the gods. / Then kettledrums, conches, paṇava drums, and horns / were sounded by the gods, rousing their joy and passion. / Then Andhaka, Tāra, Tāraka, and Namuci, / Vipracitti, Śambara, and the Dānava Mahāmāya, / Dhundhu, Kārtasvana, and the mighty Rāhu, / Śataketu, Śatāvarta, Puloman, and Vilvala, / Vātāpi, Kālanemi, Śatāvarta, Śatodara, / Mahāpārśvodara, Musuṇḍa, and Suṇḍa,
