1.2.23.1
Kalādhara said:
1.2.23.2
“Becoming a horse among the Kāmbojas, radiant with splendor, my friend
1.2.23.3
became your royal mount, O best of kings! // 1
1.2.23.4
And I, having become a musk-deer, with the fragrant rut
1.2.23.5
produced from my own body, wandered about this mountain. // 2
1.2.23.6
O righteous-souled one, by you, who arrived now on the pretext of hunting,
1.2.23.7
we both have indeed been made to complete the circumambulation of the Lord of the Red Mountain.” // 3
1.2.23.8
Because of the fault of riding a mount, such became your condition;
1.2.23.9
by the merit of moving on foot, our former station has been regained by the two of us. // 4
1.2.23.10
O king of kings, through association with you, from this bondage of bestial form
1.2.23.11
the two of us are liberated and have reached our own abode; may there always be welfare for you! // 5
1.2.23.12
Having spoken thus, as Kalādhara and Kāntiśālin
1.2.23.13
were eager to go to their own abode, the king, with folded hands, addressed [them]: // 6
1.2.23.14
“Thus, by the power of Śaṃkara of the Crimson Mountain,
1.2.23.15
you two have crossed over the ocean of the curse; how can my elevation come about again? // 7
1.2.23.16
My inner mind seems to wander upon fixing its attention on that;
1.2.23.17
my life-breaths seem to depart; fate is all-powerful in this matter.” // 8
1.2.23.18
Kalādhara and Kāntiśālin said:
1.2.23.19
“Listen, we two shall tell you the means of deliverance which bestows it,
1.2.23.20
with a concentrated mind, with all mental anguish shaken off: // 9
1.2.23.21
On the Lord of creation, maintenance, destruction, dispensation, and grace toward the universe,
1.2.23.22
on the Lord of Aruṇādri, the treasure of compassion, fix your mind. // 10
1.2.23.23
Now the sovereign majesty of this God has been witnessed by you,
1.2.23.24
who bestows such a state as this upon us two who were animals. // 11
1.2.23.25
Perform circumambulation going on foot; with white water-lilies
1.2.23.26
honored with musk, worship the Lord, the God fond of musk. // 12
1.2.23.27
Whatever wealth is yours, all of it, O lord,
1.2.23.28
dedicate for the renewal of the enclosing walls, gateway towers, and halls. // 13
1.2.23.29
Before long indeed your perfection shall become very great,
1.2.23.30
greater [even] than that of Manu, Māndhātṛ, Nābhāga, and Bhagīratha.” // 14
1.2.23.31
Nandikeśvara said:
1.2.23.32
Having heard this, and when those two Vidyādharas had straightway departed for their own abode, the king of men,
1.2.23.33
with an indubitable mind, devoted at that time, formed devotion to the Lord of Aruṇādri. // 15
1.2.23.34
Thus ends the twenty-third chapter, named ‘Description of the History of Kalādhara and Kāntiśālin,’ in the latter half of the Aruṇācalamāhātmya, in the first Māheśvarakhaṇḍa in the glorious Skandapurāṇa, a collection of eighty-one thousand [verses]. // 23
