5.75.1

Sūta said: / Formerly, in an earlier aeon, this peerless sacred field, O best of twice-born, / was given to Brahmā by the pleased Lord Rudra.

5.75.2

When the liṅga named Hāṭakeśvara was established, / it was again given to Brahmā by Rudra, pleased with the gods.

5.75.3

Then this sacred field was bestowed by Śambhu upon the Six-faced One (Skanda) / for the protection of brahmins against the blemishes of the Kali age and other evils.

5.75.4

Requested by Brahmā, this primal, supreme [field was given by him personally]; / and commanded by his father, the Son of Gaṅgā then made his dwelling there.

5.75.5

Whoever has darśana of the Master on the full moon of Kārttika during the conjunction with Kṛttikā, / becomes a wealthy brahmin who has mastered the Vedas for seven lifetimes.

5.75.6

There is a very charming temple of the god Mahāsena, / standing high above all the world, as though wishing to drink the sky.

5.75.7

Hearing of that, all the gods quickly arrived out of curiosity; / they went and gazed upon it, beholding the most sacred city.

5.75.8

To the north of the temple and to the east, O twice-born, / they began the performances of sacrifices as prescribed by the brahmins.

5.75.9

Having sacrificed and given sacrificial gifts to them, all the gods / went rejoiced to heaven, having obtained the fruit born of that place.

5.75.10

From then on, it indeed became known as Devayajana; / the fruit that one would obtain elsewhere by performing a hundred sacrifices, / that one obtains here by a single sacrifice accompanied by sacrificial gifts.

5.75.75

Thus ends the seventy-fifth chapter, titled 'Description of the Glorification of the Sacrificial Ground,' in the glorification of Hāṭakeśvara sacred field, in the sixth Nāgarakhaṇḍa of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa consisting of eighty-one thousand verses.
