Chapter 112

6.3.112.1

Glorious Mārkaṇḍeya said:
“Then, O best of kings, one should go to the sacred ford of Aṅgiras / on the northern bank of the Narmadā, which destroys all sins.

6.3.112.2

Formerly, a brahmin named Aṅgiras, who had mastered the Vedas, / performed extensive austerity at the beginning of the yuga for the sake of a son.

6.3.112.3

Constantly bathing at the three junctures of the day, chanting the names of the eternal god, / and worshiping Mahādeva with observances like Kṛcchra and Cāndrāyaṇa,

6.3.112.4

at the completion of twelve years, Parameśvara was pleased / and invited the excellent twice-born descendant of Aṅgiras with a boon.

6.3.112.5

He asked Mahādeva for a son, the best among sons: / one bathed in the vows of Vedic learning, skilled in all scriptures,

6.3.112.6

a counsellor of the gods, O King, honored in all the worlds, / a permanent abode of Vedic glory, an imperishable and immutable son.

6.3.112.7

‘Such a desired son, skilled in all branches of learning, / shall be born, without doubt.’ Having said this, Hara departed.

6.3.112.8

And by those boons, Bṛhaspati was born to Aṅgiras— / a son just as he had desired, who had crossed to the end of the Vedas and Vedāṅgas.

6.3.112.9

When the son was born, Aṅgiras installed Śaṅkara there; / and becoming joyful and satisfied in mind, he went to the Northern Mountain.

6.3.112.10

Whoever bathes at that ford of Aṅgiras and worships Śiva, / freed from all sins, goes to the world of Rudra.

6.3.112.11

A sonless person obtains a son, a poor person obtains wealth, / and whatever desire a person wishes for, that he attains.”

6.3.112.11_2

Thus ends the one hundred and twelfth chapter, named 'Description of the Māhātmya of the Ford of Aṅgiras', in the Revākhaṇḍa of the Āvantyakhaṇḍa, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa consisting of eighty-one thousand verses.
