Chapter 147

6.3.147.1

Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then, O protector of the earth, one should go to the unsurpassed Siddheśvara, / an exceedingly beautiful sacred ford on the southern bank of the Narmadā.

6.3.147.2

Whoever bathes at that sacred ford and worships the bull-bannered [god], / freed from all sins, attains the destination of performers of the horse sacrifice.

6.3.147.3

Whoever, having bathed at that sacred ford, performs a śrāddha with diligence / for the sake of pleasing the ancestors, everything has been accomplished by him.

6.3.147.4

Of living creatures who die at that sacred ford, O best of kings, / the thought of dwelling in a womb never arises for them again.

6.3.147.5

Dwelling in a womb leads indeed to sorrow, never to happiness. / For one who bathes with the water of that sacred ford, there is no recurrence of rebirth.

6.3.147.5_2

Thus ends the one hundred and forty-seventh chapter, called 'The Description of the Māhātmya of the Sacred Ford of Siddheśvara', in the Revākhaṇḍa of the fifth [part], Āvantyakhaṇḍa, of the Skandapurāṇa containing eighty-one thousand verses.
