Chapter 74
6.3.74.1
The venerable Mārkaṇḍeya said:
On the northern bank of the Revā is an exceedingly beautiful sacred ford
that removes all sin in the mortal world, named indeed Gautameśvara.
6.3.74.2
It was established by Gautama himself, desiring the welfare of all people;
it is like a staircase to heaven for men, O Yudhiṣṭhira.
6.3.74.3
Go there with supreme devotion, where the god, the teacher of the universe, resides,
for the destruction of sin, bestowing residence in heaven.
6.3.74.4
It is a sacred ford that increases fortune, grants victory, and destroys sorrow;
and by a single offering of a piṇḍa, one delivers three lineages.
6.3.74.5
Whatever is given with devotion, whether small or great,
all of that becomes a hundred-thousandfold, indeed by the command of Gautama.
6.3.74.6
It is the supreme sacred ford among sacred fords, spoken by Rudra himself.
6.3.74.6_2
Thus ends the seventy-fourth chapter, titled 'Description of the Gautameśvara-tīrtha-māhātmya', in the Revākhaṇḍa of the fifth [part, the] Āvantyakhaṇḍa, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, a collection of eighty-one thousand [verses].
