With devotion I have heard the wondrous deed that brought about the pacification of greed.
4.44.2
na tṛpto'haṃ gajāsyasya sudhāpāna iva prabho |
vada kṣetrasya māhātmyamadhunā tasya sarvadam ||
I am not sated, O Lord, as if having drunk nectar of the elephant-faced one;
tell now of the greatness of his sacred place, which grants everything.

tvaṃ putro bhava nau svāmin saṃsārottāraṇāya vai ||
Worshiped and praised by both of them, the god was implored:
‘Become our son, O Lord, for delivering the world from saṃsāra!’

Eighty million incarnations of Gaṇeśa are proclaimed;
they are known as the sons of Śiva, appearing in the manner of portions for specific tasks.
4.44.12
kecicchivāt sumudbhūtāḥ kecicchaktermahātmanaḥ |
ubhayoryogataḥ kecit kalāṃśā abhavan parāḥ ||
Some arose from Śiva, some from the great-souled Śakti,
and some supreme partial portions arose from the union of both.
4.44.13
yādṛśaṃ saṅkaṭaṃ prāptaṃ tadarthaṃ saṃsmṛto vibhuḥ |
tāvat kalāṃśayogena putro'bhūt sukhadāyakaḥ ||
Whatever affliction arose, for that purpose the all-pervading Lord was remembered;
then, through a conjunction of a partial portion, he became a son who bestows happiness.

taṃ dṛṣṭvā vismito brahmā jagāda sa mahābalam ||
endowed with abundant fragrance, like a second god of love.

evaṃ pṛṣṭaḥ sa taṃ devaṃ jagāda meghaniḥsvanaḥ ||

nāma nānāvidhān bhogān bhuṅkṣva sarvatragaḥ svayam ||
"Your body is richly fragrant and red; therefore, [your] name [is] Sindūra. / Enjoy various delights, roaming everywhere at your will.

vipule so'pi tapasi mṛto yadi bhaven mune ||
Sūta said: / "When a man performs austerity for the sake of accomplishing his wishes and intentions, / even if he should die during that vast austerity, O sage,

4.44.34
garjayitvā vidhātāramāliṅgituṃ pracakrame |
tad dṛṣṭvā paramāścaryaṃ brahmovāca sudāruṇam ||
Having roared, he began to embrace the creator. / Seeing that supreme wonder, Brahmā spoke most dreadfully:

brahmovāca |
madvarasya prabhāvena māṃ hantuṃ samupāgataḥ |
ato daityo'si duṣṭa tvamabhāgyānnātra saṃśayaḥ ||
Brahmā said: / 'By the power of my boon you have come to slay me. / Therefore, you are a wicked Daitya due to misfortune; there is no doubt in this.
4.44.36
putrasnehena re duṣṭa varā dattāḥ sudurlabhāḥ |
ato gajānanastvāṃ vai haniṣyati kulādhama ||

jagāma śaṅkaraṃ sadyaḥ kailāse yuddhalālasaḥ ||
