143.1

Glorious Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then one should go, O great king, to the supreme Yojaneśvara, / where in a former kalpa the two sages Nara and Nārāyaṇa attained perfection.

143.2

Having performed austerities at that pilgrimage place in a battle with gods and Dānavas, / both the great-souled Nara and Nārāyaṇa attained victory.

143.3

When the Tretāyuga arrived again, those two gods became Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa; / having bathed again at that pilgrimage place, the unconquerable Rāvaṇa was slain.

143.4

Again, O son of Pṛthā, when the Kali age arrived, those two gods became Bala and Keśava; / born in the family of Vasudeva, they performed difficult deeds.

143.5

Naraka and Kālanemi, Kaṃsa, and Cāṇūra and Muṣṭika, / Śiśupāla and Jarāsaṃdha—Bala and Keśava slew them.

143.6

Then there in battle that Lord will slay his enemies, / led by Bhīṣma and Droṇa, and Karṇa, Duryodhana, and others.

143.7

In the field of righteousness, Kurukṣetra, they fight there for a moment, / on behalf of Bhīma and Arjuna, making each other their pupils.

143.8

Having gone again to that pilgrimage place, having performed very difficult austerities, / and having honoured the twice-born with devotion, they two will return to Dvārakā.

143.9

Whoever bathes at that pilgrimage place and worships Bala and Keśava, / by him the god who sustains the world, possessing the three qualities, has been worshipped.

143.10

A person who, having fasted, keeps a vigil / and sings his auspicious tale is freed from all sins.

143.11

As many trees as men behold at that pilgrimage place, / so much sin, such as the murder of a brāhmaṇa, is destroyed for them.

143.12

Whichever men, having risen at dawn, behold Balarāma and Keśava, / are all equal to that very god of gods, the wielder of the discus.

143.13

They are worthy of worship, they are worthy of salutation, and their life is well-lived— / those who bow down to the god Hari, Nārāyaṇa, who is worshipped by the world.

143.14

Whatever gift, sacred bath, and worship of the deity is performed / at that pilgrimage place, O king, all of that fruit serves for imperishability.

143.15

Gold was the first offspring of Fire; the earth belongs to Viṣṇu; and cows are the daughters of the Sun. / By him all three worlds are given, who gives gold, a cow, and land.

143.16

All this glorification of the pilgrimage place, past, / future, and present, endowed with great power, has been related to you.

143.17

Having heard or read this, or having caused the righteous to hear it, / one is freed from all sins; no doubt should be entertained here."
