Glorious Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then one should go, O great king, to the excellent pilgrimage place Sāṃvaura, / where the sun is present, worshipped by gods and demons.

164.2

Those men there who have attained lameness, whose noses and nails are decayed, / whose limbs are broken with patches of ringworm, and who are swarmed with flies and worms,

164.3

Bereft of mother and father, abandoned by brothers and wives, / helpless, incapacitated, mutilated, plunged into an ocean of sorrow—

164.4

their protector, the womb of the universe, rests upon the bank of the Narmadā: / the Lord of Sāṃvaura, remover of people’s distress, destroyer of sorrow.

164.5

Having bathed at that pilgrimage place continuously for one month, / whoever worships the god Bhāskara—hear the fruit of his religious merit:

164.6

The fruit obtained by bathing in the northern and eastern ocean, / O Pārtha, and in the southern and western—that same fruit is gained at that pilgrimage place.

164.7

The sin accumulated in childhood, in youth, and in old age / is destroyed in Sāṃvaura merely by bathing, without a doubt.

164.8

There is no disease, no poverty, and no separation from loved ones / for seven births, O king of kings, from worshipping Sāṃvaura.

164.9

By fasting on the seventh lunar day, and having fasted on that day, / he attains that fruit by bathing there, without a doubt.

164.10

The fruit that is traditional for an offering mixed with red sandalwood— / having bathed at that pilgrimage place, O best of kings, one obtains that fruit.

164.11

The delightful water of the Narmadā, destroying all sins, / is specially gazed upon by the high-souled Sāṃvaura.

164.12

They are fortunate, they are noble-minded, their life is well-lived, / who, having bathed, behold the supreme Lord of Gods, Sāṃvaureśvara;

164.13

they dwell in the world of the sun until the dissolution of all beings.
