187.1

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
Then one should go to Jāleśvara, the primordial liṅga of the Self-born,
renowned as Kālāgnirudra, situated in Bhṛgukaccha.

187.2

It pacifies all sins and destroys all afflictions;
out of compassion, it arose to destroy the sins of the holy site.

187.3

Formerly in a kalpa, when the three worlds were overrun by hosts of demons,
when rites taught in the Vedas were destroyed, and when righteousness vanished,

187.4

while divine sages, munis, and perfected beings held supreme faith,
smoke originating from time arose from Kālāgnirudra.

187.5

From the smoke, the liṅga arose, piercing through the seven netherworlds;
leaving an abyss to the right, the liṅga stands right there.

187.6

At that pilgrimage place, O best of kings, is a pool born from flame,
where that flame fell when Śiva burned the [triple] city.

187.7

There an abyss appeared, and from it arose Dhūmāvarta.
Whoever bathes in that pool in the waters of the Narmadā,

187.8

performs a śrāddha for the ancestors, and worships the Three-eyed God,
[reciting] the names of Kālāgnirudra, goes to the supreme state.

187.9

Whatever desire-prompted rite, or magical rite,
or rite destroying enemies, or rite concerning offspring,
is performed at this pilgrimage place, O king, all quickly succeeds.
