68.1
Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
One should then go to Dhanada's pilgrimage place, O Yudhiṣṭhira, / on the south bank of the Narmadā, which brings about the destruction of all sins.
68.2
The fruit of all pilgrimage places is obtained there, of this there is no doubt. / On the thirteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Caitra, with senses controlled,
68.3
having fasted with supreme devotion, one should keep a night vigil. / A wise man, O king of kings, should bathe Dhanada with the five nectars,
68.4
should offer a lamp with clarified butter, and arrange singing and musical instruments. / At dawn, one desiring his own welfare should honor brāhmaṇas,
68.5
who are fit to receive gifts, teachers of the doctrines of learning, / engaged in Vedic and traditional rites, and turned away from others' wives.
68.6
One should honor them with cattle, gold, garments, shoes, and meals; / by giving an umbrella and a bed, all sin is destroyed.
68.7
By the power of the boongiver, the sin produced in three births [is destroyed]; / it gives heaven to the undisciplined and liberation to the disciplined.
68.8
For the poor, there will be food birth after birth; / noble birth and destruction of sorrow arise in a man by inherent nature.
68.9
Destruction of diseases occurs for them from serving the water of the Narmadā. / But whoever gives the gift of learning at Dhanada's pilgrimage place,
68.10
he goes to the world of Bhāskara, free from all diseases. / And whoever performs a deity procession right there according to one's means, O son of Pāṇḍu,
68.11
performing it copiously on the south bank of the Revā, / they go to the world of Śiva, free from all sorrow.
