Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
Then one should go to the supreme Maṅgaleśvara, O king of kings, / established by the son of the Earth wishing for the welfare of the worlds.

69.2

Śaṅkara, adorned with the crescent moon, was pleased with supreme devotion. / On the fourteenth day, the guru, the god Maṅgaleśvara, appeared visibly:

"Speak, son, a pure boon; I shall grant it to you, O Maṅgala."

69.4

Maṅgala said:
"Be gracious to me, O Śambhu, O Śaṅkara, in birth after birth. / Born from the sweat of your body, I reside among the planets.

69.5

By your favor, O Īśāna, I am worshipful by all deities. / Today I have attained my purpose from seeing and speaking with you.

69.6

May Maheśvara be named after me at this site, O lord of the gods of gods!" / Saying, "Let it be so, O son," he then disappeared.

The great-souled Maṅgala too, having established Maheśvara, / then worshipped the trident-bearer by the power of his own spiritual discipline.

along with their wives, O best of kings, during the Aṅgāraka rite on the fourth lunar day: / a learned brāhmaṇa, knower of the Veda, accompanied by his wife.

69.10

At the conclusion of the rite, a cow with draft animals is given dedicated to Śiva: / "May Mahādeva, whose emblem is the bull, accompanied by his wife, be pleased with me."

69.11

A pair of red garments should be given, O son of Pāṇḍu, / and two draft-animals of red color, as well as white and black,

69.12

an umbrella, an auspicious bed, red garlands, and ointments / should be given with a purified inner self, O best of Pāṇḍavas.

69.13

On the fourth and on the eighth of both the bright and dark fortnights, / a funeral offering should be performed right there, free from stinginess with wealth.

69.14

The ancestors remain well-pleased for one age of the world, O lord of the earth; / a mortal is born with sons birth after birth, O best of kings.

69.15

By the power of that pilgrimage place, a man becomes handsome in all limbs, O king; / his lineage becomes auspicious, and no inauspiciousness is ever found.

69.16

Whoever constantly recites it with devotion, his sin is removed.
