75.1

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: / On the southern bank of the Narmadā is a most splendid pilgrimage place, / renowned indeed throughout the earthly realm by the name of Śaṅkhacūḍa.

75.2

Śaṅkhacūḍa himself dwelt there, O son of Pāṇḍu, / on the pleasure-giving bank of the Narmadā, O Pārtha, out of fear of Garuḍa.

75.3

Whoever at that pilgrimage place, being pure and concentrated, / bathes Śaṅkhacūḍa with devotion using milk, honey, and clarified butter,

75.4

and keeps vigil at night before the god, O king of men, / after worshipping Brāhmaṇas of commendable vows with curd-rice— / when a gift of a cow is given to this best of the twice-born, it causes the destruction of all sins.

75.5

Whoever, O Pārtha, makes funeral offerings for one bitten by a snake at that pilgrimage place, / goes to the supreme world, according to the word of Śaṅkara.
