77.1
Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then one should go to Bhīmeśvara, which causes the destruction of all sins, / frequented by hosts of auspicious sages who observe formidable vows.
77.2
Whoever, having bathed at that pilgrimage place, fasting and with senses conquered, / recites the single-syllable mantra with raised arms facing the sun,
77.3
his sin acquired in this lifetime is destroyed that very moment; / sin acquired across seven lifetimes is surely destroyed by the Gāyatrī.
77.4
A recitation of ten [destroys] that of ten births; a hundred destroys that done in former times; / with a thousand, the Gāyatrī destroys sin arising from three births.
77.5
Whether Vedic or secular, a recitation chanted [there], O lord of men, / instantly burns up all [sin], just as fire burns grass.
77.6
Relying on the power of the god, one must never commit a sin; / [a sin done] through ignorance is destroyed quickly, but never a deliberate one.
77.7
Whatever gift one gives at that pilgrimage place, relying on one's capacity, / all of that yields an imperishable fruit, O son of Pāṇḍu.
