80.1
Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said:
Then one should go, O best of kings, to the excellent Nandikeśvara,
where the great Nandī attained perfection. I will tell you all about that.
80.2
In ancient times, Nandī, the lord of the gaṇas, placing the Revā before him,
went from pilgrimage place to pilgrimage place, performing asceticism and achieving victory.
80.3
As soon as he departed, leaving Dadhiskanda and Madhuskanda,
so pleased was Mahādeva that he addressed the lord of Nandī:
80.4
Īśvara said:
Ho, ho! I am pleased, O Nandīśa; choose a boon as desired!
I am satisfied with that asceticism performed by you on your pilgrimage.
80.5
Nandīśvara said:
I do not desire wealth, nor do I desire family lineage;
leaving [all else], I desire no desire other than your lotus feet.
80.6
Even if I enter the womb of animals, worms, insects, or birds,
may my devotion to you remain unshakable birth after birth!
80.7
Saying 'So be it', Mahādeva, with supreme compassion, O king,
took the perfected one by the hand and went to his abode, Hara.
80.8
Having bathed at that pilgrimage place and worshipped the Three-eyed One with devotion,
a human being obtains the fruit of the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice.
80.9
If one who has bathed at that pilgrimage place gives up his life's breath,
he becomes an attendant of Śiva and rejoices for an imperishable kalpa.
80.10
Then, after a great period of time, he is born into a spotless family,
knowing the truth of the Vedas and Vedāṅgas, and lives for a hundred autumns.
80.11
This has been told to you, dear one, the excellent glorification of the pilgrimage place,
rare to be attained by a mortal, bringing about the destruction of all sins.
