> Is it possible to sulk, O tōḻi, with the man from the town of cool, rich fields,
> where playing women gather for festival adornment
> the white-stemmed, great flowers like fish-bones,
> shed from the clustered stalks of the bent-thorn muḷḷi?
> Formerly, there was indeed a time when he cherished these \[breasts\],
> looking like iron clasps on the tusks of an elephant
> that battered a great gate, confusedly saying,
> “These do not let me embrace, pressing my chest so that my dark eyes close,”
> and even when I said, “I forbid it,” he would not cease;
> now, when we wished to embrace tightly
> his chest adorned with fragrant sandalwood and shining with color,
> with my tender, honeyed breasts marked with pale spots,
> swollen with milk held back for our son,
> he feared the flow of sweet milk;
> noticing that my embracing hands had loosened at that moment,
> looking at my son in the hands of the brisk-walking foster-mother,
> I gently turned toward my son, saying,
> “You suit that good woman; behold,
> we suit the little master.”
> Seeing that, he grew weak, saying, “I too love him,”
> and embraced my back;
> for me whose mind's fortress was breached,
> he wept, softening like the soil of a red field
> plowed many times that receives the cool drops of a heavy downpour.
